I think they care as well. My little sister is dating a guy that worked for a chain for some time. He was ultimately fired for caring to much. Of course that wasn't their reason, but they didn't like the fact that he didn't listen when he was told to feed the kittens a 1/4 cup of food per day. Chain stores have to answer to corporate. If a change is to be made, it needs to happen at THAT level, not per store.

The fact that the employee I spoke to DID in fact know they should not be on sand, but stated that when she brought it up she got no answers, shows that she cares and tried to get it changed but to no avail.

I'm waiting on the follow up call.

Well he did have a little bowel movement. It was very hard. I honestly think him eating those wax worms and crickets last night stunned his metabolism. He's been so used to probably getting little to no food, his body didn't know what to do with so much at one time. I was VERY happy to see potty when I checked on him tonight!

Now my only worry is if he has parasites. What are some tell-tale signs I should watch out for? He is definitely quarantined...and before feeding, touching, or even cleaning my other geckos tanks I wash and sanitize my hands very well.

Alright! I got a call back from Corporate today in reference to my concerns. The woman was very helpful, and did not throw aside my comments, but instead spoke with me for almost 20 minutes making sure she understood everything.

She told me that they are currently working on coming out with formal communication with their stores about the change of substrate for the leopard gecko enclosure. She told me they have been working with different companies to get quotes on different materials for the change of substrate, and are in the process of waiting to hear back with large quantity quotes. She also explained that as of right now, she was pretty sure stores have been told they do not NEED to place them on sand if they do not want to, however it is that stores individual choice at this point. At least until Corporate issues the new substrate to all stores.

I also voiced my concern on the age, and number of geckos contained in the single enclosure, explaining that the competition for food would result in less healthy animals. She said they have been speaking with their vet, and the age definitely IS an issue, and another thing they will be working on. I told her I've hatched out geckos larger than the one I just recently purchased from our local outlet. She seemed really upset by this fact.

All in all, it was a great conversation that I hope will result in some changes...I doubt soon, but later is better then never. She sounded generally concerned when I explained to her there are a number of people that have had the same experience I have. I just hope eventually change is made!

That's great that she listened and responded to your concerns! The fact that she addressed the issues and acknowledged them is definitely a step in the right direction.

:) I'm very pleased and happy. You're right, change is better late than never.

Is the little one doing okay today?

He's really mellow. I think he's just so weak. I've been supplementing with slurry 3 times a day, just a little at a time to be sure he's getting enough fluids. From when he GORGED himself on those crickets and wax worms the first night, he did have a little bowel movement yesterday, so that is a little reassuring. I just wish I could see his skin and tail looking more healthy...I know only time will tell. He sure is a little sweetheart though! He'll sit for hours just letting me look him over. I REALLY hope he pulls through!
