So my first one I felt I was never careing for him correctly and I was so concerned I was hurting him so I sold him, well me and my friend are pitching intogether and going to buy a crested and share owernship.

Anyways here are some things that always worried me last time.

Tank size. I had a 10 gallon on its side so it was tall, now for a small hatchling is that too much or too little and for an adult it that too small. We are planning on getting a sterlite tub for his/her cage what qt do you recommend

second thing that really really got me was humidity. I read its supposed to be between 70-80% but that's almost impossible to keep and when I did, someone else told me it was too high and thats why my gecko could never stick to anything.

Third thing. Water. can they only see running water. So should we get a waterfall or is a water bowl just fine?

How many times do spray em with water?

Last thing. Do you only feed crickets twice a week or can they go without being fed crickets? Because I found if I just tried feeding him CGD for a week or so he would start to get skinny :( it's like all he would eat was crickets and I don't want that to happen again.

THat is all! Thanks!!!

oh wait substrate.

If you could jsut tell me how you setup your cage and how you feed yours that would be awesome because I just don't want to feel Im doing something wrong this time with this new one.

for a hatching to a gecko up to about 8-10g a medium kritter keeper is what you will want to use. Once it reaches 8-10g then you can upgrade to the 10 gallon tank. For an adult I feel it is a bit on the smaller side, but remember large breeders dont have 20 gallon aquariums all over the place to house single adults. I find a 15 gallon high is a suitable size for a single adult. And tubs work great, not the prettiest things, but they work fine.

You want high humidity, but not all the time. If you make it so that there is high humidity at all times, mold often will grow. So having peak times where it is 75-80%, then letting it fall in the afternoon to around 60% is fine. I personally do a light misting in the morning, and a more heavy misting in the evening.

They dont normally drink water from bowls, thse guys prefer to drink drops of water from the sides of the tank or on the leaves, which is why you mist more heavily at night then durring the day. You can offer a small water bowl if you wish, some will drink from it, I personally dont offer one, I just use the misting.

If you have a wekk started baby they will happily eat CGD and nothing else. This year all of my hatchlings have been fed cricket free, feeding only on CGD. None are skinny, all are healthy and nice sized. Now remember babies dont look like they are eating a whole lot so if you see poop, poop = eating. And I offer CGD every other day. If you do decide to offer crickets, 1 time a week is about all you need, and depending on the size of the crestie, 3-6 no larger then the distance inbetween its eyes are fine. I am thinking maybe your gecko was not raised properly from where you got it from, maybe it was offered a baby food mix which was why it wasnt eating well on the CGD.

Babies-larger juvies should be kept on paper towels. An adult can be kept on a dirt substrate, but molds can grow quickly. Paper towel is always the safest way to go.

I agree because the girl I sold him too all she will feed him is baby food and he gladly eats it. I also know that before that all he got for months was crickets, no CGD.

I like using papertowels.

Thanks so much for all the help! I apperciate it tenfold!

So you feed everyother day or you make new CGD everyother day?

OK so last night I fed CGD to everyone. The food will be in for that night (wed night) and tonight, thursday night. Friday I switch the bowls out and everyone gets a fresh bowl of CGD. Some of my geckos will snarf it down quickly, other geckos take a few licks and wait until the next day to snarf it down. The babies....errr yeah they dont snarf, you really cant see a major difference in how much they eat,, except for the occassional lick mark, you just need to keep an eye out for poop to know they are feeding.

When you do decide to get another one. Do some detail work, make sure that wherever you get it from that they are offering CGD and not baby food, or a babyfood mix, esp if you are looking on CL for a gecko. And I do know of a few small breeders I have met at reptile shows who even offer CGD with baby food because they read it in a book it is OK. So if you go to a reptile show to get one, be nosy, ask tons of questions. If they get pissy about it, walk away. I know when someone asks me tons of questions I know it is a person who really plans on doing what is best for their pet.

Thanks so much! I know there are a few people at the show that if they are the only ones selling cresteds I'm going to a breeder who actually sells on here.
