I just made the mistake of going out to lunch. Driving conditions are HORRIBLE! It's snowing and hailing/icing out at the same time, so the snow just sticks to your car. I had to drive with my windows open so I could see out of them. And, the slush/ice kept sticking to my windshield wipers, so my windshield kept streaking and I couldn't see out of it, so I kept having to reach out my window, grab the wiper and let it slam on the windshield to clean it off. I couldn't see at least 20 feet in front of me, and sometimes I couldn't see ANYTHING, not even the road. It is really bad driving! My boss is letting us leave early, 2:00, and he had to fight to let us out at that time. Our manager (Who is actually in Cleveland) said that he didn't think it was too bad to let us leave. He must have looked on Weather.com and saw that we only have about 5 inches os snow or so, and thought driving wasn't so bad. He doesn't understand that the worst part is the mixture of Snow/Sleet/and Ice. And, then you add the high winds to it, and it makes it even worse.

I am SOOOOO dreading the ride home.

Your mananger that lives in Cleveland should just look at the local news here to see how bad it is, and know that you've got the same thing there. What a an *&%!

Be careful driving home Jeanne.

Thanks Fel! My normal 30 minute drive is probably going to be more like 60 + Minutes, unless I get stuck, then....who knows!!!!!

Sounds like you are getting what we had last night, Jeanne. We got about 6 inches of snow, but then topped that off with a good chunk of ice. Ryan and I heard it hitting the windows/house from about 10 PM - 11 AM this morning. The trees are completely coated in ice, and it's snowing pretty hard here again. They just now cleared Ryan's road..but they plowed me in and it's going to take me a very long time to dig out. Boo :main_thumbsdown:

and here comes the ice in Massachusetts. Ruined a perfectly good snow storm. We haven't even been sledding yet this season! It's a shame. And man it makes for a miserable day! I have to pick my 6 yr old up from kindergarten--that's going to be slippery, wet & a whole lotta NO FUN! Be safe everyone. Careful shoveling, wet snow will take you out!

LOL Rick The other type super snow should be here in a few days at least I hope!! ;)

Good luck on the Supers.:main_thumbsup:

I hope to get some this season but it will be late as my females are only about 40 g.

The girl in my avatar just laid her first clutch ever of 19 eggs. I have high hopes for her.

Well, I made it home alive :) Driving home actually wasn't that bad, it had changed over to all sleet by the time I left work. At lunch, it was a mixture of snow and sleet, I think that made it a lot worse.

But, when I got home, I got stuck at the bottom of our driveway, had to shovel my car out, until Bobby got the snow blower working. It was the first time we've used it, so it wouldn't start, he had to use the electric starter to get it going, Thank God for long extension cords!

I decided to brave the streets, and run up to the store. I was shocked to see how much snow actually fell here. We usually don't get that much snow here on the west side of town but it's pretty deep. Roads were slick but hopefully they will have that all fixed by morning.

It took us about an hour and a half just to get the snow cleared from around my car, and the only reason it only took that long is because a nice neighbor with their gigantic snow blower came and helped. The snow was basically solid ice, and you had to chip before you could actually shovel the pieces which were incredibly heavy. It's hard to see in the pictures, but I had snow crammed in my rims and covering my brakes.

And if the amount we had to shovel wasn't enough, there was basically a small creek running down the road. So while you shoveled, you were standing in water over the top of your shoes. I was literally shovelling water just to get to the snow so that I didn't have to stand in 3-4 inch deep water.

Right now it's 8 degrees and we have 40 mph winds which is going to cause a lot of drifting over night. Not to mention all that water running down the roads is going to freeze. I'm hoping that at some point the road crews will make it to my neighborhood and actually plow, since they haven't done that yet. I really..really hate winter. That groundhog better be right.

They STILL haven't plowed my street. I swear, if I'm stuck in this house again today I may just lose my mind. PennDot is claiming to be working 24 hours a day..I can only imagine that they're working for 2 hours and picking their noses for the other 22. I have stuff to do today and none of those plans involves staring out the window watching for the snow plow. :main_angry:

Val, perhaps it's time to take matters into your own hands and rent a flame thrower to clear the streets yourself. I'm sure that would get someone's attention.

Do you think I could get one delivered?

A guy down the street actually has a snow plow hooked up to his truck, so this morning he plowed himself out of his driveway and left the large clump of snow in the middle of the street. God forbid anyone in York would do something helpful like let the other people get out of their houses.

Um... it sounds like some bloodlines in PA are in desperate need of out-crossing!

That's for sure. "Jerk" is definitely a dominant trait in York, and jerk is putting it nicely. :main_rolleyes:
