so i just got a leo for my 18 b day with some crickets and leopard gecko dust by t-rex. soon im going to buy mealworms and i was just had a few questions..

1. do i have to transfer the mealworms out of the container they come in? or just gutload them in there?

2. besides the one from progeckos.com, do you know of any other gutload for mealworms that i can buy that are commonly found at petsmart or petco that's good quality?

3. when putting the mealworms out to be eaten in the dish, do i put the same gutload under them that was in their container, or do i just dust them or what?

thanks for the help,
brian

Just leave them in their container with gutload. ALthough, if you get them from Petco or one of those big chains, you may want to transfer them to another container so you can mix some decent gutload in there.

No. I use progeckos. You can also get a variety of grains and cereals, powder it in the blender and make your own.

I add a little gutload to the feeding dish to keep the mealworms from climbing out to look for food. I sprinkle some calcium w/ D3 on them once a week in the dish and sprinkle on some vitamins once a week.

thanks for the help,
brian

For gutload you can make your own with oatmeal and calcium sprinkled on top. Then add potatoes or carrots so the mealworms wont get dried out.I'm guessing your using the petco mealworms. For transferring them I used sieves and poked bigger holes with toothpicks and sifted them. For putting them in the cage just dust or leave calcium in the dish and throw them in. You don't need gutload in the dish. I hope this helped.

This is what i use for my mealies. I use Flukers high-calcium cricket feed. I add 2 table spoons of Rep-Cal with D3 and 2 table spoons of Rep-Cal Multivitamins its (Blue). And mix very well then i also use carrots for water every other day and put them into the frig. at normal temp for food. I have been doing this way for awhile know and my geckos are very healthy. Note i also use a 50-50 in the dishes when i put the mealies in there every day. Just change out the powders every 2-4 weeks to make sure it is re-fresh with the powders. I am also doing this for my hatchling. And i also have a dish of just cal-with D3 in there at all times. Hope this helps ya. (JoHn) :)
