i own a beardie now, and may be getting a leo. female beardies lay eggs whether they've been mated (poss fertile eggs) or not (not fertile eggs).

do leos do the same, i.e. lay eggs no matter what (once they're old enough)?

Yes, female leos commonly lay infertile eggs without breeding.

i guess i'll cross that bridge when it comes lol

usually how old are they when they begin to lay eggs? just so i have a time-frame to work around

Weight is a better indicator of maturity than age, but as a general rule most will mature between 6 and 12 months of age.

Female leos strictly are unable to produce viable eggs untill they reach between 16 and 18 months of age, males however can mate successfully from 6ish months onwards even if a bit inexperienced
I am a leo breeder and a few of my younger females laid clutches that were all dud and or produced very weak and sickly offspring :S

It depends on the gecko. Last season one of my geckos who was 9 months when she laid her first egg, laid 23 eggs during the season, 22 of which hatched successfully. I've had similar performance from some other young geckos. Some geckos do well when they are younger, others need to wait till they're older.
