So, I bred a Redstripe male that I picked up last year to a Redstripe Tremper female that I produced. She only gave me two good eggs and both hatched out albino. So, it turns out the male was het for tremper which I wasnt to thrilled about. On top of that both babies hatched out with a jungle pattern rather than nice stripes. I was 99% possitive about what male I had put with the female but to make sure, I bred the same male to another redstripe tremper which was the sibling to the first female. The first egg hatched out a non albino redstripe which is what I was wanting. The second egg hatched out a couple days later and was shocked to see what had hatched. I dont know what all is going on with this male but from stripe to stripe breeding he has now produced a redstripe, jungle albinos, and now this patternless crazy carrot tail thing!!! Now I cant wait to see what comes out of the rest of the eggs! I guess my attitude towards him being het tremper changed a bit after seeing the last hatchling!!
Here is the two hatchlings from the second pairing.

Breeding stripe to stripe does not always guarantee more stripes. You need to know the lineage of the parents of the stripe. When breeding a non stripe to a stripe and a baby stripe comes out, that baby (from my experience and opinion) will produce just about any and every pattern if bred to a banded. If bred to a jungle you can get and will get just about everything except banded. Then bred to a stripe you will get 50-75% stripes and then jungles. Obviously this is not always the case...but usually is. If you breed a stripe to a stripe then you will have almost all stripes and those babies will also produce almost nothing but stripes if bred to more stripes. Lineage is a HUGE deal when working on producing quality stripes. In addition to that other factors such as Eclipse or het Eclipse throwing off patterns as well. I have been breeding RRS het Typhoon x RRS het Typhoon and I am getting some insane stripes, striped tails and patty body, Typhoons, and jungle/stripe Typhoons.

Just contact the breeder for a lineage on them and then if you decide you are serious about wanting only stripes (almost only) then contact someone who works a lot with stripes. I have been working on them for a long time now and still every year I get a few head scratchers. Good luck and nice looking babies you have there.

Thanks Travis, good info! I wasnt really shocked by the jungles, just disapointed because obviously you hope for stripes. I was mainly surprised by the underlying genetetics that I wasnt aware of that produced the albinos and the amount of carrot tail on the one hatchling. When I got the redstripe male I was not made aware of any other genetics in him and did try to contact the breeder but was unsuccesful. This just shows how important it is to test breed your geckos to know exactly what genetics you have!
