Meet little Nyoko!

I'm not sure if I have a little boy or girl, but still- cute as a button! For now, we'll call him a "he" ...

He's exploring a little bit- still really stressed out though. I ended up having to switch heat bulbs between him and Ryuu as hers was warmer...

Nice! I like his gray color :main_yes:

How much does he eat for you? Do you put shredded salad in a dish and let him catch tiny crickets? I'm asking because my little Hugo (about the same size) only wants to be hand fed. I need to hold the baby crickets in front of his mouth for him to take them. He doesn't care if I put him in a big cardboard box and throw in a baby cricket. He follows its movement with his eyes, but doesn't go off chasing after it at all!! I wonder if it's normal. He also doesn't take his salad out of a bowl or from a little heap on the floor. He eats it from a tea spoon that I have to hold for him. When do they start eating by themselves?

Hugo is funny :)

Nyoko hasn't eaten anything yet, actually. He's got a couple wormies and a tiny bit of salad, but I don't expect him to eat for a couple days- Ryuu didn't. As for when they start eating on their own? Ryuu did from the get go, but she was older when I got her... we'll see how this one does :) I'm hoping he's not a spoon fed baby... His salad is non-existant right now... I forgot it at the store, so I'm going Friday.

He looks SO tiny in his new tank it's so cute! :)

I'm going to follow your future posts to see how your little one is doing with food :main_yes: :D This is my first beardie; have only had him for a few days. He hasn't shed yet, and I'm not quite sure what to expect (I have cow udder lotion for him in case he has trouble). Does it really take 2 weeks for the shed to come completely off?? Leopard geckos get it done in an hour or less. Hugo took off on the carpet today. At first I thought he's as slow as my AFT's, but he's actually quite the runner. But I got him! :main_evilgrin:

oh wow! Nyoko's pretty quick as well! I was taking a ton of pictures (I'll post them once I unpack my cord) and he decided he was done and jumped out of my hand. Thankfully I'm just paranoid enough that I was holding him over his tank, so he landed in his water dish :)

Have you bathed Hugo yet? I haven't bathed Nyoko yet, but I need to clean the tub out first. I don't trust him in the sink- still too spazzy.

About the eating tho- I have worms in a glass candle top and he saw them today, but hasn't shown much interest in them beyond that... at least he knows where they are. I need him to get a little bigger before I can feed him crickets, no where around here sells pinhead crix.

My little Lacey when she was a just month old when I got her and took well to 1/4" crickets. The 20 long tank was a bit big for her so I always fed in a 15qt, just a few crickets at a time, and it worked out well. As babies they eat more insects than salads and the ratio gradually changes as they grow. She showed great interest in veggies when she spotted a baby superworm crawling on them and has liked them ever since. Some days she eats only a little salad and some days a lot. Some days a few bugs if any and just wants veggies, some days just bugs. I think they try to train us!

oh, I can tell ya, Ryuu has trained me quite well. I'm not going to play the stupid cricket game like I did w/ Ryuu- we're definitely going to use a tub for feeding. I hate catching crix.

Very nice pics! :main_yes: I'll show you some of Hugo, too. He got a bath right after he arrived, and on the two following days. He darkened quite a bit after I got him; when he came out of his box, he was so light colored, almost transparent, and half frozen. Like this:

After a good basking under his light bulb, he looks like this:

on his log:

sitting on his log in his cage (see how small he is?):

on my hand, very grumpy, after refusing to eat a baby cricket:

in all his beauty (he still has a little stuck shed on his head, but I got most of it off):

His favorite food is smashed blueberries :p :D

he's so pretty! I love his colors! He has no spikes? What kind of beardie is he? He looks awesome! Is he as soft as he looks? (sorry.... tons of questions, lol)

I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow for some stuff, so Nyoko will get to taste bits and pieces of new foods...

I did find something he went nuts over, as far as live foods tho... Dubia roaches! (eww) My friend brought over a couple tiny ones and he jumped off my hand into his bowl and ate two, then decided he was done. If he keeps this up, I'm going to have to find out how to order or grow some this winter =/

Eeh, roaches :p I gueess I have to try those, because Hugo doesn't like baby crickets that much (he only eats two a piece; somewhere I've read they can eat 30???), and he also doesn't love waxworms (yep, I tried one).

He is a Silkback, which is a scaleless bearded dragon caused by breeding two Leatherbacks together (I think), and yes, he's as soft as he looks :) The bad thing is, they can get easily hurt (especially females when getting bitten in the neck during the breeding ritual), and they often have shedding problems, so you need to rub them with cow udder lotion. Haven't experienced it yet, but I'm prepared :main_rolleyes:

I got him quite cheap from www.a1reptiles.com, because he is missing one nail on his left front foot. At the last show I was vending at, a Silkback cost 300 bucks (I got him for less than half of that). I love him :D When I noticed he's getting darker, I almost freaked out, because I read on some bearded dragon forum that a person had two babies that got dark and died. But he's very much alive and running around. I have him on soil mixed in with sphagnum moss, as the breeder recommended where he came from. But I feed him either on the carpet or in a big empty cardboard box. He was very shy in the beginning, but seems to get to know me now and associate me with feeding time. He's all alone right now in the empty AFT shelf. I need to buy more cages ;) Already got ideas for the future inhabitants....

If I ever get Hugo a wife (in a year or two), it's either from the place where he came from, or from BloodbankDragons. Look at those gorgeous animals!!! Will have to sell lots of leos before I'm able to afford one :main_evilgrin:

yeah, I feel the same about roaches... they are SO gross, especially these- they look like the offspring of flat ticks and roaches, it's awful... (insert whole body shudder here)

Ryuu spent her first few months on playground sand and LOVED it... in fact, she prefers her brumation spot to be playground sand so she can burrow... but I haven't gotten her any this year- yet. I'm may go get some tomorrow while on errands- she's cranky if she can't burrow. She lives on slate tiles now. Little Nyoko is on carpet til I can figure out how to tile his bowfront tank.

And yeah, they can eat up to 30 small crickets at a time! Ryuu went thru over a 100 crix in less than a week when she was younger. It was expensive, lol. Have you tried hornworms? He may be big enough to eat the small ones- they are beardie candy! Ryuu only gets them before she begins to brumate as they are high in fat.

Hello sweetie :main_laugh: Yours has great colors, too!!! Nice fiery burrito :main_laugh:

I've just ordered dubia roaches from www.theroachguy.com.

Argh!! First time in my life. I might regret it. But it's worth seeing if Hugo likes them. If not, I have some hungry leos and AFTs who might... I'm not doing hornworms. Those are beautiful! The turquoise ones... when I first saw them at reptile shows, I thought they were pets, not feeders. Naw, I couldn't do that. They're simply too pretty. Roaches for now :main_yes: :D
