Hey, I just joined last night and thought I'd introduce myself. I plan on getting a crested gecko after the first of the year. This will be my first gecko, but not my first reptile, I have a sulcata tortoise, he's just about a year old now :) any advice for the gecko would be appreciated

I have, and I understand for the most part, just a little confused on what substrate is best, health wise , and not completely sure of the temps/humidity. The one here says different things then the others I've read online

There is more than one way to do things, which is why the care sheets can vary. Some people prefer to keep their cresties on a non-particle substrate like paper towel to be absolutely sure they don't ingest any of the substrate. Others (including me) like the idea of a more naturalistic, bioactive substrate and use coco-fiber or some kind of soil mix fabricated by a place that sells vivarium soils. The crestie needs humidity, but not be constantly soaking wet. I mist every night. I don't worry about temps as long as my house is habitable in the winter for humans (i.e. ambient temp not below low 60'sF). In the summer, since I don't have AC, I put ice packs in the crestie cages when the temps get above the mid-80'sF.

I recommend you pick a method from the caresheet(s) you like best and watch your crestie to see if it's thriving. Ask questions and make changes if it's not thriving. I hope that was helpful.
