I just looked at this post again…

I would really recommend getting him off of the woodchips and onto newspaper or repti-carpet, or something similar, as soon as possible.

Also could you get a regular body shoot of him, so we can see from head to tail in just one pic?

I will measure him from head to tip of tail and post size later he has been on woodchip for over 1 year now with no problems do you still reckon getting him off it ????

I have just measured him and he is just over 10 inches from nose to tip of tail

So with his measurement would you say he is over weight or just a big boy He gets three crickets every 2-3 days

He's porky, and shouldn't go any bigger. If it makes you more comfy, you can put him on a diet. Just a warning, it's harder to make a gecko lose weight than you might think. I had a guy arrive at about 110g that looked similar (maybe a little fatter) and it took 2 years+ to get him to 80g where he looks really healthy.

And yes, the aspen chips should be changed.

Ok so not wood chips some say not play sand, some say play sand what about forest bedding.

I would like to tile it but it is all setup and fitting tiles would be quite hard ?????

you can have tiles cut to any size you want at lowes or home depot so that they fit in there perfectly. plus its worth the extra time it takes to change that substrate out if it means your gecko is healthier and safer!

Yea! LOL But with as long as they can live, it's not so bad. I swear at one point he was getting something like 3 superworms a WEEK and he would only drop 2-3g a MONTH. These guys are built to bulk up and hold on to that bulk for dear life. It's best to just avoid getting them to that point in the first place, if you don't go for the ginormous look. :main_laugh:

LOL!! I agree. I have never let any of my leos get fat.
I think they are healthier and more active when they are thin (like me! :D)

On the rare occasions when I get desert on the brain, they all get waxies (powdered doughnuts!) and I get cheescake!! :main_thumbsup:

When it's not served often, it makes it more of a treat. :main_yes:

How often

Is 2-3 crickets every 2-3 days to much and also what do you think about forest bedding as a substrate ???

I have to get rid of the wood chip but want something that is appealing as I tried paper towel and newspaper and as my geckos are on display in the lounge it did not look good. Obviously there health is more important that appearance. I got them from the Lizard Wizard and she always uses forest bedding but would like your thoughts ?????

When I got my first leo I had her on calci-sand, but that was before I found GF.
I have my 3rd leo on repti-carpet, and I think it looks nicer.

If that is how you've been feeding your gecko for awhile (several months), then he's going to be a stubborn loser like my Ozzy. Just judge how much the weight bothers you. If he's maintaining weight with that diet, I'd probably leave it be. You'd probably have to darn near starve him to get him to lose weight. :main_laugh:
