Is It Bad?

I would like to put pictures on my website of one or two of my leos outside. If you think it's ok, I would get a gate so they would not escape. Do you think that he/she could pick up parasites easily?

Please only answer if you COMPLETELY know what you're talking about.

P.S. I haven't set up the website completely, so don't ask for the link.

I don't think you are going to get many replies in the way your asking your questions..You want help but, you are also basically saying don't bother me. Maybe I am just reading into it. To answer your question?? You did not say how long they will be out there. If you are just taking pics in the grass and bringing them back in you shouldn't have a problem. You have to remember, reptiles that live in the wild can carry all kinds of parasites. Internal and external. A mite is an external parasite that lives on reptiles and is quite common that they could pick them up if you left them outside for a period of time...Hope I answered your question in the way you wanted...:)

i have seen a lot of pictures of leos outside that owners have posted, but i wouldnt try it unless you know exactly what youre doing, and even then youre running a risk.

As a veterinary student who is taking Parasitology right now...

Technically, your leos could pick something up, even if they were only outside for a little bit. However, if all you're doing is setting them down, snapping some photos, and picking them up again, I would consider the risk to be minimal. Just watch them over the next few weeks after letting them outside to make sure they don't show any symptoms of parasitism.

I will add that since it is Spring & people are prepping their yards, use caution that where ever you are placing them hasn't recently been covered in any chemicals/pesticides etc. If you don't know, be sure to ask.

I think he is saying that he wants to keep them outside for a long periods of time. That would not look well to anyone, these are inside creatures.

Also, like David said, watch your attitude. If you are asking a question, expect alot of opinions from people with support for those answers.

Short periods of time for a quick photoshoot is better than long periods, keeping the geckos that you're not photgraphing in a container with a lid.

No gate would block them unless it was a solid baricade at least 12" inches tall. Long periods of time you'd have to worry about predators picking them up, as well.

I'd keep them in a container and take their pictures outside, if you're wanting to use natural light. I think there's too much risk to let them roam the yard while you take pictures. I wouldn't want to risk any paracites, insecticides, or weed killers floating around.

Why not set up a light box or something?

Don't put your geckos outside for more than 10 minutes:
1: If under direct sunlight, the heat built up in the tank will kill your gecko in seconds.
2: The risk from cats and birds etc.
3: How do you deal with the lighting and heating? Is there a power cable outside?
4: What happen if it rains?

To sum up; people tend to baby sit their leos too much so don't take the risk

Unless you have them boxed in there is no guarntee that it won't get away it took one of mine about 5 seconds while sitting on my chest to do a 90 degree turn run the length of my leg jump to the floor and run about 3 ft to get under my couch. It takes a hawk, or owl about 10 seconds to spot and swoop in on lunch which is what a gecko would be to them. Then if your neighbor has used a water hose to spray weed killer, bug killer,or even fertalizer then there is a good chance it could also be in your yard.So with any and all of these possibilites I wouldn't put any of my geckos at risk.

Well, if you have very calm leos that like to be held, it shouldn't be a problem to take them outside and snap some pictures. But if you are planning on putting them on the ground to take pictures, you should listen to the reasons the others stated. Just take them outside and hold them while taking pictures, so you aren't taking any risks. Oh yeah, watch your attitude. I wasn't gonna answer, cuz EVERYONES opinion matters. I'm pretty sure everyone on here is sane. What you were saying is that there are insane people on here who don't know what they are talking about, so just watch it. :main_lipsrsealed:
