does one of the Snow hatchlings look a lot bigger than the other two babies?

I just realized the other day that Vanille, our first 2010 hatchling (the one that appears to be bigger) could have some Giant genes.. her grandmother is a Giant RAPTOR, and her father has yet to be proven Giant..

She does have longer, lankier legs than usual; so I thought I would get a comparison pic of her with the others.

edit: forgot to mention the one that appears bigger is three days older than the other two.. but I didn't think 3 days would really make that much of a difference in size

Yeah, it definitely does look bigger. To me the Enigma also has that giant look, especially in the head, is it a poss. giant or am I just seeing things?

Timothy, thanks, yeah my boyfriend and I are HUGE fans, I always smile real big when someone recognizes the name Vanille haha :)

Tony, no the Enigma shouldn't have any possible Giant genes.. I think it could look like that since it is in the foreground, not sure though.. maybe both are bigger and that one other snow is just really small? lol I don't know..I haven't weighed them all yet and it's hard to get more shots with all three of them together since they're so jumpy

Sometimes geckos hatch out bigger than others. Sometimes geckos grow faster than others. I wouldnt really use this as an indication of being Giant but I also have never dealt with Giants so I dont really know.

Yeah, that is very true.. that is, afterall, why I put that answer as a third option ;) I will definitely be keeping an eye on her, I think she does look lanky, like Giants tend to, even as babies.. but time will tell :)

Okay, so Vanille isn't the biggest baby we've ever had, but she weighs 4.3 grams, and both of the other two weigh 3.4 grams, with the Enigma tipping the scale, closer to 3.5 :)

Bigger or Not?

Hi Jess.
Are you ready for an HJ opinion?
OK, your question seems to be does the
4.3 gram gecko look larger than the others?
Yes to me it looks about 3 days older and .9
gram heavier.
As far as a giant, take the well known "is it a giant"
formula described by Bernstein and Bopp
in the book of "Giant Be Mine?"
Take the length of a front leg + a rear leg x width of head,
+ daily weight of food eaten, Divided by the number
of days old. Then wait until it is 12 months old and
see if it is about ( 9 1/2 inches and 140 grams)
Good chance it is........But:
Only the Shadow knows what
lurks in the size of geckos.

my giant hatchlings are reaching or exceeding 15grams by 4 weeks old. You cannot tell for sure till they are fully grown but there are indications or signs of a giant to watch for. Long lanky legs, longer than normal tail, and much larger structure to the head.

My guess would be that this one in question looks like just a big hatchling. It's tail and legs don't look giantish. But you never know. Keep it and see what it reaches. Females 90grams by 1 yr and males 100+ by 1 yr.

HJ, all of that math sounds too confusing LOL Perhaps The Shadow will shed some light on this subject before too long :) TCHJJB

Landen, yeah we have had a few Giant hatchlings in the past.. she really doesn't look lanky in pics but I do believe she looks lanky in person.. time will tell though. You could be right, I mean, her mom is a huge chunker (85 grams when she was last weighed), and her grandfather is also a 135 gram Mack Snow (no Giant genes).. So Vanille could just be a chunker too. We have gotten "big" babies from our "big" parents time and time again; I think they were averaging 10-12 grams in 4 weeks, with no Giant genes.

I am thinking a .9 difference in size, along with it being 3 days older, might be normal.. if the other two gain .9 grams in three days, which they very well could, then they technically would be the same size as this one

It's still fun to post a new thread and ask about it anyway ;)

I agree. In all honesty there's so much variation in the giant sizes. I just call it a big gecko.....Good luck to you.

Yeah I'm just going to call it a big gecko too.. and who knows, I mean, I've had geckos I thought would be HUGE that had some very slow growing rates.. sometimes even the slow growers end up big.. so.. I was just excited that she is a lot larger and *might* be Giant :) Thanks for the luck, I need it!!
