I just watched my Male Tangerine mount on my Female High Yellow. I got the Male today and he is very hyper. Walking all over the cage, trying to climb up the glass, ect... So I introduced my Female to him and the first time nothing, he tryed but she denyed him. Well about 8 hours later I put her in again just to see what would happen and he started with the rattlesnake tail. Then he started biting her and then mounted on her. She allowed him this time. My question is. I dont know if she was ovulating. Does that mean she was if she allowed him to mount and proceed to mate?

as far as her ovulating I really dont know. I checked under her stomach and she kept moving so I could not really tell. She did not fight him at all. She pulled away but that was after about a minute maybe minute and a half. Then the male kept licking his privates and I put her back into her tank.
So much for a hi how are ya...

As far as I know the female does not have to be ovulating at the time of copulation. It is more likely that a female will allow a male to breed with her if she is ovulating but is not necessary.

The eggs may be fertile if she is ovulating and the mating was successful. If she is a first-timer, the first clutch or more may not be fertile. Even if she is proven, sometimes they just aren't fertile.

On a related topic, even though it's hard to wait, it's generally a good idea to quarantine any new gecko from your collection for at least a month before putting them together. I know how hard it is to wait. A friend who wants to breed her gecko with one of my males has her female gecko with me. I told her that the only way to do it was for the gecko to spend a month with me in quarantine (even though I produced her 5 years ago), then to meet the male and then to stay here and lay her eggs.

good luck with them.

Thanks for all the help guys.
Yes I should have waited but it is really hard. When should I put in the lay box?

I keep the lay box in there all year. It doubles as the humid hide. My males seem to love sleeping in it during the day!

What is a good size for a laybox? I have the container I got my male in but it seems small? I am planning on going out to walmart and picking up a Glad sandwich container.
As for the Sphagnum Moss, at my local home depot they have those big 25lb bags of it. But its more dirt than moss. Is that useable?
