I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of a male actually breaking a females neck during breeding? We have a TAG ( Eben)and he is such a sweety that we decided to breed him with our female TAG. She was ovulating and she is a proven breeder so I know she is a girl. We always stay right near incase there is trouble. He was out and awake so we put her in his tank and he immediatly attacked her. He took a chunk out of her big beautiful tail. Luckily it is healing up very nicely and we don't think she will loose it. Anyway, I called the person that we got him from to ask if he had ever been bred before and he said " Oh, I thought i told you,. He was only put it with a female one time and he broke her neck!". We have no plans to try and breed him again. I was wondering if it is common for a male to be like that? He is so tame, it shocks me. He gets on our bed at night and snuggles right up under my hair for hours. He sees a person come into the room and he starts trying to et out. He acts more like a mammal then a reptile, LOL. His aggression towards a female gecko just shocked me.

i had that happen once, but he didnt get to the neck instead he broke our females front leg. he is not a breeder now hes just a pet we thought maybe it was the female so we tryed him again and he tryed the same with her but she was a bit to big for him lol. but yes some males are not breeders.

Thats what I decided about Eben. He is just a pet now. I don't want to risk another female being seriously hurt.

I've had it happen once

He didn't break her neck but caused some major nerve damage or something, she was never right again, and eventually died of it. the weird thing was, he had bred other females before and since, but I guess never liked them as much? I dunno, it was a shame too, she was my nicest tang!

I have a normal male (he's about 7 years now), he was a proven breeder, then he had a time out for 2-3 years when he came to me and after that I put him with a female... He bit off her tail and ate him, then after half of a year pause and "oops I did it again" - another female's tail was eaten. Both females were smaller then him and were in different tanks with other males. I've desided to hold him as a pet only and named him - "Monstro":) But 2 years later I finally saw his mating with beautiful White&Yellow female (no eggs yet):):) He is very gentle with her, so I guess leo behavior is a big mystery....
