Is it possible to take the UTH off of a tank?

Hi,

I'm brand new to these forums. I don't have any leopard geckos right now but I have been thinking about getting one for about a year. Currently, I have a 10 gallon tank with an UTH under it fit for a 15-20 gallon tank. I would like to buy a 20 gallon long tank if I get a leopard gecko; however, I would like to take advantage of my resources and try to save some money. Is it possible to take the UTH off of the 10 gallon and transport it onto my 20 gallon?

Thank you!

Hi Bellalee,
Thanks for your quick response!
I have a question for you. I don't feel like posting a new thread so I was wondering (from your perspective as a leo owner): How much do you roughly spend (monthly) on your gecko? I was very close to buying one about a year and a half ago and had the setup and everything but then overthought it (I'm an overthinker/overstresser) and sold the setup on craigslist. Now, I'm reconsidering the idea because I really do enjoy leos. What are your ideas? (Anyone else can answer)

Mm... geez depends on where you get them.. and how much your gecko eats.. I got the gecko bug.. and now have 6 of them.. when I had one.. she really wasnt that expensive.. but I really didnt take care of her like I should.

Haha. But I'm sure you take proper care of them now.

I'm afraid I'm going to get the gecko bug so I plan on getting a territorial male. :p However, I do have a love for the giants.

Gorgeous, no? I saw him in an ad on craigslist from someone that spent big bucks on him but unfortunately has to move. I hope I can get him. :)

The adult ones are pretty inexpensive to feed if you feed mealworms. I can buy a container for 100 worms for about $5 and that lasts us for a while. She only eats about 4 worms every other day. When we first got our leo she was a baby and we spent about $40 a month on crickets.

I have removed the UTH several times.

Becareful when taking off the UTH you don't want to pull and bend it too much but gently remove it. I would suggest getting a credit card or something similar to wedge it underneath to gently pull it up. I say that because most UTHs I believe have these coils in them and they can easily get messed up from being bent and beat up too much and can cause them to short circuit, that's why the warning on them says NOT to remove them and place them on another tank.

I tried pulling one off and I thought it was fine until I inspected it and saw that it had a small rip then had to buy a new one because I didn't trust it anymore.

As for food depends what you use or decide to breed. Obviously if you breed your own food it'll be pretty much FREE except for the stuff you need to maintain them. I personally like bulk even though I have ONE LEO! I bought a 1,000 mealies for less than $20 and just cooled the ones I didn't need in the fridge, lasted MONTHS! I just bought 250 Supers for like $12 that should last a few weeks so I can get my roach colony going, which was $25 which included shipping for 117.
