i made a thread a couple of days ago about the air pockets behind my leo's legs, but a couple of people mentioned in the thread that it looked a little overweight although they couldnt see properly as the photos didnt show the tail or the whole gecko.

so I have taken some full body pics, im just wondering if that is overweight? hes about 25cm long from tip of tail to nose.

thanks

He looks fine and very healthy!:D Not sure if anyone has told you but those air pockets behind his arms and called calcium sacks. Its basically where they keep their extra calcium. Just a little food for thought;)

No, those pockets do not belong there and are not a good thing. They are composed of mostly excess protein and fat. Either from too much fat in the diet, overfeeding or oversupplementing. Keep in mind Vitamins A, D, E and K, the fat soluble.

No......those are calcium sacks. Cutting back on the supplements solve this in no time its not excess fats.

OK kiddies, all this has already been answered :). Those were caused by over supplimenting, and the leo is not over weight, Kelli, or admin already stated this in his other thread lol. I pretty much fallow her judgment.

I don't feel this gecko is overweight. Those fluid pockets are protein and calcium rich lymphatic fluid, and are not a huge problem. Keep in mind that Fall is the time of year that most species that brumate/hibernate will 'pig-out' to build a good fat reserve to survive the winter.

I don't think you are understanding. Certain vitamins are fat soluble.

Most vets use a body point system ranging from 1-5.

Condition Score 1: Severely Underweight

Condition Score 2: Underweight

Condition Score 3: Ideal
The trunk of the body has a uniform appearance from above with the ribcage and abdomen being approximately the same width.

Condition Score 4: Obese

Condition Score 5: Severely Obese

If he took him to a qualified reptile vet, I bet he would score 3.5

If a veterinarian would use a small hypodermic needle and aspirate some of that 'fat' in those 'fat bubbles', he/she would find that it is liquid... not fat. Calcium is not a vitamin, either... and these pockets are not associated with blood calcium levels.

Oy cook, just a bucket of info eh? :). But seriously, we know that there is a mild case of over supplimenting going on here and the diet is fine, so which would say those were?

I think he is just right. Don't worry about him. ;)
He's also a very handsome fella...looks almost like a boldstripe outcross.

ye i was just going a bit nuts with the calcium/d3 and multivitamins, will reduce that now.

is he not a normal?

hes really shy and rarely comes out his hide even at night, are most leos like this? im wondering if the viv i got him is too big (3ft long) and is a bit scary for him?
