Is my Leopard Gecko Ill??!

I bought two leopard geckos this Saturday and they are babies. One baby was shedding at the time. I brought them home and I put one in the warm hide and the shedding baby in the humid hide to help it shed. Today I noticed that the baby had stuck shed on its fingers and I soaked it in lukewarm water 83-91F. And I proceeded to take off the stick shed successfully with tweezers. The baby walks funny. And I freaked the heck out because it walks with its elbows? With its front legs like how Bulldogs walk? I read online that sometimes Leopard Geckos get something called MBD. I don't know what's wrong with my leopard gecko and I hope it's nothing! I really need some help. Anyone?

It could be MBD from what it sounds like. What I would do to counter it would be to quickly start dusting all his or her food with Vitamin D3 and Calcium. To get extrea Calcium into him/her you could put a bit on your finger and place it near it's face to try and get it to lick it off. It will hopefully stop MBD from getting worse, but it may not fix the way she/he walks. If you catch it early you could maybe correct it a bit. So make sure she is getting the right Vitamins in her/him. If anything I would consult a reptile vet as well just to make sure there is nothing else wrong with her and that it is in fact MBD. Welcome to GF. Was it walking funny when you first got it? You're right that some geckos get MBD and do walk funny, but it doesn't usually happen all of a sudden. It's possible that the gecko just got a big traumatized by you removing the shed (even though you did the right thing). If it will let you pick it up, hold it and move its legs gently to see if it can bend them or if the front legs look swollen. Did you get the geckos from a pet store that sells reptiles and other kinds of animals too, from a reptile store or from a breeder? Many pet stores will allow returns within the first 2 weeks if the buyer feels that the gecko is not in good health. Do you know whether or not your geckos are males or females? If you don't know, and/or if you got them from 2 different places, you should ideally quarantine them from each other for a month or until you know the gender. That's because 2 males will fight and a male and a female will do . . . other things.

I got them both from P....E....T....C....O. I don't know if he was walking like that when I bought him but, when the guy was trying to grab it, it didn't move or anything. I didn't think too much of it. I truly hope it's just traumatized but, I'm pretty sure it's MBD by the videos I've watched. They are baby leopard geckos and I don't know their gender. P....E...T...C...O gave me a 60 day return (maybe it was 90 day) but I'm pretty sure if I return the little gecko they'll probably throw it in the trash can or something. I don't know what that place does with its animals. I'm going to go to see. If they'll give it to a reptile shelter? Then maybe but I'm attached to it already (it's been 3 days) I feel like I'm abandoning it if I just return it without a care. It's a life... Thank you. I have another question. What calcium and vitamin d3 supplement should I buy? I have repashy's calcium plus but...it has MBD I'm pretty sure I'll need seperate calcium and vitamin D3.

Thank you but, I can not afford a Vet. And I doubt that P...E...T...C...O will take the Gecko to a vet or use their own in store vet to see the problem. I would love to have a vet take a look at it. Im just going to supplement it to prevent it from getting worse. I'm also going back to the pet store to see if they will actually try to help. If not? I'll take matters into my own hands and try my best to care for it.

The Repashy Calcium plus is fine as a supplement. There are 2 possibilities if the gecko really has MBD: either it wasn't supplemented properly at the store (and if it didn't get to eat until the feeders had cleaned all the calcium off, that could have happened), or it has a metabolic problem that keeps it from utilizing the calcium and vitamins (I've produced a few geckos like this). I recommend you start supplementing the feeders, try gently hand feeding if necessary (hold the gecko gently with one hand and press a feeder against the mouth until it bites it --I don't consider this force feeding because I'm not shoving anything down the throat). I can understand why you'd want to keep it anyway, which is fine. It may make a decent recovery, or it may not make it. As long as you can cope with either alternative, go for it.

I use a mixture of three different supplements. I use Rep-cal Calcium with Vit.D3. That I used just about every time I feed. Then I use Rep-cal Herptivite multivitamins every three or four feedings. Then every other three to four feedings I use reptivite from Zoo Med's. So far I have had no issues with any of my leopard geckos and they are both very very healthy.
