Is my male reacting to his reflection?

So i have observed my male do that tail wiggle; the low to ground dead stare, slow wiggling of the tail back and forth in the air while moving in slow motion towards what he is staring at. He tends to do this when i just put him back in the tank, and when it is only him in there. I have noticed that each time he does this he is facing the heat pad on the side of the tank. Is it possible that he is reacting to his reflection or something? I am curious about why he is acting this way. I know it is a defensive behavior but i dont know what exactly is triggering it.
thanks

Is it a brighter or darker area of the cage that he looks at? It does sound very possible that his eyes haven't adjusted or there's a light difference, and the reflections are tricking him into thinking there's an intruder.

Could be, if its a dark heat pad then it will make the glass quite reflective to him, so very possible.

Also you may find the heat pad provides more heat if its under the tank rather than on the side.

I agree the heat pad is probably best underneath the tank as the belly heat is what they need to digest food the best. But I know my Leo has gotten pretty deffensive over her reflection! lol I thought it was funny!
