Hi, could anyone tell me what albino strain my female is please? She is a Patternless Albino and was sold to me as 'believed to be' Tremper. But I've read that RWPA are much more common then Trempers so now have my doubts. She is paired with a RAPTOR so time will tell anyway, I'd just like some opinions :D

Thanks in advance!

The difference between rw and tremper is often hard to tell.

I have tremper patternless albinos and rainwater patternless albinos and If I compare the eyes of your animal with mine I'd say she is a tremper.

tremper i believe, because of the eyes. i'm no expert by any means, but i also have a tremper albino and i asked a similar question recently. i was told she's tremper because of the light eyes. your geckos eyes are about the same in color as mine.

Thanks for the replies! It's great that she looks Tremper as I plan to breed her with my RAPTOR next season :)

By that picture I'm almost thinking Rainwater. If you look into it's pupils and they're a deep ruby red then it's a Tremper, if the pupils are solid black it's a RW.

Thanks for the tip Mel&keith. Her pupils are dark, but they may still show red if I can get a pic like the ones you posted, you can see Trempers eyes have a red glow. I have to ask though, when you say 'solid black', how can they be if they are albino? Or do you mean they are such a dark red they look black to us?

Albino and Amelanistic have 2 different definitions:

Albino=congenital deficiency of pigment in the skin

Amelanistic= lack of melanin(Black)T-neg.

All of the albino strains lack black pigment in the iris but the pupils can still appear black. Pupil photos can be hard to get, those took me an hour in the dark with a telephoto lens! LOL The easiest way to tell is to hold them in a room with a moderate amount of sunlight and face them nose to nose. A Tremper's eyes will have a sort of ruby glow to them but a Rainwater's will look opaque black like onyx. Hope that made sense!

how can you really tell for sure?

Unfortunately, all you can do is make an educated guess. If you're not breeding it then it doesn't really matter. That's one of the benefits of buying from a breeder, you know the exact genetics behind the gecko. Otherwise it can be a bit of a mystery.
