Is she healthy enough?

Right, i'm going to put my male and female together and hope for some mating at the weekend. My only worry is that my female Frankie isn't big/healthy enough because people are always saying that they should be 50g+ and well, Frankie is only in the high 40's. My question is will she ever get to that weight because shes just over 18 months old now. Also she is rather fat with a very large tail at times and i think she could be on the verge of becoming obese if she eats anymore so i don't want to do that. Heres a picture...

Can i breed her, will she be okay. I think she will i just want some experience breeders opinions.

Thanks:main_thumbsup:

Yes, weight matters more than anything really. I breed my females at 50g at LEAST. I usually try for more but sometimes the waiting game gets to me. lol But yes 50+grams is a good point to breed.

She is 48g right now, she has been for nearly 3 months now and i can't get her to gain anymore. I think she is just small or a little stunted and may never get to a much higher weight. I bought her from a petshop, she was in quite bad condition when i got her, very skinny, could that bad start in life have stunted her growth and weight gain?

Thanx

Will she eat a pinky mouse? try that to gain some breeding weight. Some of mine eat them and some dont. Also u can try some waxworms to fatten her up too. just dont make them her main diet, but just as a snack if u will. ;)

That could very well be. :main_yes: And that being the case, you've done a fantastic job with her.

I'm not going to tell you if it is or isn't OK. But if it was me, and given the fact that her stature looks good and she weighs 48 grams, I'd breed her.

I'm not sure what her willingness to eat a pinky has to do with the question at hand. I've never fed a pinky to any of my breeder females yet, and all have done very well.

The pinky question was asking if she will eat one it will help gain some weight. I was just trying to help her gain weight. Sorry if I misled someone...somehow ;)

Thanks for your advice guys. I think i will go ahead and put them together finally tonight. Just to answer your question hybrid, I've never tried pinky mice, i doubt my mum would let me try, shes a little senstive when it comes to frozen cute lil animals. I have just started feeding her waxworms too as she has never previously had them, she took one nicley from me before, So should i feed her like 1 or 2 a week?

ah, how confusing, i've just now introduced them to each other and he's doing the vibrating tail thing and trying to bite her but she is waving her tail vigorously, walks away then comes back. Is this her rejecting him or does she need time?

Thats her rejecting him. Are you sure she is ovulating? I usually wait until my ovulate. If you need help deciding if she is: use the search option in the forums and search "ovulation" it should bring up some pics for ya.

Ive also had females ovulating reject males like urs did, and after a while give in. Use your best judgment here.

She might not be ovulating if she isn't being receptive....usually the female will lift her tail to allow the male to mate when she's ready. If she's not ready, she'll let him know.

In the mean time, until your next breeding attempt, you can give this a try (click the hyperlink). It's worked for me this season with a couple reluctant females. Maybe it will get your gal "in the mood". :main_laugh:
