I can't seem to find the right thread or sub-forum.

I'm a noob, and I'm looking for a good book about leopard geckos. Any suggestions?

What are your thoughts on this book,The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos?

There is not a book review section but most of the info you need can probably be found by searching through the sub forums. There aren't really that many great Leopard Gecko books out there IMO. "The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos" is an interesting read. You can find even more accurate information right here. And it's free! lol

Thanks! Well I'm actually after the pictures which would help jumpstart my knowledge on the different morphs. Honestly, I'm still lost as to what you guys are talking about when you discuss Tremper, Hi-yellow, enigma, mack snow, rainwater, etc.:main_huh: I just still can't figure out the difference in detail. So far I know what a regular and albino morph should look like. So a picture catalog with discussion on variations would really help me a lot.

I can't stress it enough: buy and read books!!!! :D No matter how many forums and websites you visit, it always pays to have books on the subject (no matter what that subject is). "The herpetoculture of Leopardgeckos" is according to me a must have for everyone that owns leopardgeckos. It's a great book to jumpstart you're knowledge and there are many references listed in the book that are quite helpful!!!

Ninno, I haven't read it but I heard that "The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos" is a very good one to learn about morphs (expensive too). However, I learned most of my info about morphs & their genetic from reading past posts in the "Morphs & Genetics" catagory & the "Show off your leo" Catagory. (here's one about stripes: http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=18629

Another great find is sites that list the morphes with examples. Here are a few (but there are LOTS more if you just google it):

www.paulsagereptiles.com/LeopardGenetics.htm
www.leopardgeckowiki.com
www.vmsherp.com/LCLeopardNames.htm

Stick around here, you'll learn quickly! ;)

It isn't that expensive.... Most books I own are like 5 times the price you pay for Tremper's book!

I am still deciding if I want to buy that book or not. I have one leopard Gecko book the Julie Bergman co authored Called Leopard Geckos, Leopard Geckos in Captivity authored by Robbie Hamper, Geckos authored by Julie Bergman talks about alot of differant species of geckos and I have Crested Geckos authored by Adam Black. I would recemend all of those.

Thanks John! I always have all the good gecko books in stock on my website. Many folks don't think books are important these days, they are missing out on great resources. Nothing replaces a good text on your particular subject. When I worked on my edited book "Geckos," which I wrote 95% BTW, I had no less than six editors reviewing it, many who were not from a herpetological background so laypeople could understand it. Internet info just does not have that kind of scrutiny.

Not to say internet info is not useful as here we are! It is hard to sort out the ^$#! a lot of the time though, so books are important to provide us a foundation we can work from to do that. :)

Thank you all for your inputs. I just love books, they are always handy when you need them for reference.

I placed an order at amazon for The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos. Got a good price. Now, I will just have to wait for it to arrive.

The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos by Ron Tremper, is probably the best gecko book I've been able to find. I've read almost the entire thing and it's great! The only thing is, its a little dated with the morphs, it doesn't have some of the newer ones.

As far as leopard geckos go, yes! Keep in mind it has been out a couple years now and morphs pop up all the time. For different types of geckos the book recommendation is going to change. :)
