OMG, I'm still in shock. My first egg hatched last night! I thought the due date was Aug 6th, so I wasn't expecting it yet. At first glance (the room was fairly dark) I saw a collapsed egg. I thought something had gone wrong. Then I saw the baby almost completely out. Half of it's tail was still in the egg. It seems to be a perfect little baby. Holy cow, I had heard that they could be mean, but this little thing lunges at you with mouth open!
I'll post a pic later when I have more time. I can believe we were actually successful!
It's clutchmate still hasn't hatched. Maybe it won't? I thought they usually hatched within a short time of each other?
I'm not prepared either. My heat tape hasn't arrived from Beanfarm, and my thermostat hasn't gotten here either. I made a makeshift nursery out of tupperware placed inside my 95 gallon with the adults. I taped cardboard to separate them and they can't see each other. Thankfully I have a UTH on either side of the tank. I'll have to pick up a spare UTH today so I can get it in its own 10 gallon.
