The weather is starting to warm up which means the critters are gonna be coming out real soon :). I've been obsessing over catching a copperhead for awhile now and i'm hellbent on it. My ex has begged me not to do it for fear of death (regardless of how many times i explain they're not deadly if you're not allergic & are an adult) but i'm not the type to listen to anyone but myself, and even that's a stretch. I live in a rather secluded area with lots of woods and a creek real close, i've been told lots of copperheads roam the area so my hopes are high. Any advice for this crazy sob?:D

Go get em!!!

Ive caught a few Copperheads around my house, but due to the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency :)main_thumbsdown:) threatening to put me UNDER the jail, I have only examined and viewed them for several minutes before releasing them.

I'm with ya...I have a friend here that goes snake catching every spring. He's been begging me to go with him for years and I'm finally going to take him up on the offer here soon :) Going to be a blast, I cannot wait!

Good luck, and be safe!

Are you willing to bet your life on this statement??? That is a very poor attitude to have and it can be very dangerous...

Copperheads HAVE killed adults who were not allergic... Any venomous species has the potential to kill you...

If a copperhead bite does not kill you, you will still be dealing with extensive tissue damage in the form of necrosis... You can EASILY lose a finger due to the necrotic properties in a copperheads venom... They do not call copperheads "finger rotters" for nothing in the venomous hobby...

I am not telling you not to go out hunting them... I am telling you to do so with the knowledge that you can either die or become disfigured if you are bitten by a copperhead... These animals are no joke and should be treated with the same respect as any venomous reptile...

I'm well aware of their potential danger, the statement was meant more as a sarcastic joke....maybe i should have worded it better. I'm fully aware of what they're capable of, and have always showed the proper respect to any animal capable of inflicting serious damage. I'm also not a 14 yr old kid who's only handled & kept a ball python....i've been deeply involved within the world of snakes for 15+ years, dealing with all sorts, including copperheads, cottonmouths and several species of rattlesnakes. I completely realize the level of respect they require & I don't plan on being some sort of idiot that will grab one thinking no harm would come to me. My apologies for the way i phrased my statement, it probably didn't come off the way i had intended...one of the biggest problems when typing and not actually talking. Make no mistake though, this undertaking is not something i take lightly and it is not meant as some sick thrill, more of way to gain more experience in another level of keeping. I chose a copperhead not b/c they aren't dangerous at all, but the likelyhood of a fatality is less than that of other hot snakes in regards to venom. They are still dangerous, don't get me wrong....but compared to others, its a substantial difference. I appreciate the warning though, it's good to hear responsible keepers and i would totally agree with your statement b/c it's not something to take lightly, especially for someone who doesn't have the necessary experience in dealing with these potentially very harmful animals. When i explained to my ex about their "less than lethal" abilities, it was more in the scope compared to others b/c she's not what you would call "snake saavy" and assumes they rank right up their with a black mamba or something else ridiculously deadly.

boy do I wish I could catch cool snakes around here... I don't think Ontario is known for snakes. Haha the only thing we see is garter snakes.

I stepped on one a couple days ago by the river while I was out geocaching. I might have tried to catch it but I had my son in my arms at the time. I have caught them before but never had much luck keeping them so I always just released them.
