Nice additions. What do you have planned for the Pastel YB

I have to decide whether or not I want to dive in head first on a project or just go conservative. Something tells me that I'm not the conservative type though. I am for sure putting him to a big normal gal to try and produce a y/b or two, possibly y/b pastel, but a local friend of mine is pushing for me to buy his heavy hitter for him to have his way with. ;) We shall see.

Nice additions! I knew you couldn't resist for long =)

Don't be offended by me asking- but are you SURE that is a pastel yellowbelly? I have many pastels from a variety of lines that look very similar to the pictured animal, and all of my pastel yellowbellies have intense blushing up the sides, even as young babies. Side by side even as hatchlings, it is very easy to tell between a "nice pastel" and a "pastel yellowbelly". I can get photos to show you what I mean but below is a good visual link:

Jon,

I've seen quite a few adult pastel yellowbellys over the course of the last few days (more than I'd like to admit to) and have shown my pastel yellowbelly to a couple of reputable local breeders as well as Albey, and I am confident that he is without a doubt a yellowbelly pastel. I even took him to that "talented Asian" Keo ;) who knows yellowbelly's and their crosses as good as anyone, as you know, and he says there's no doubt he is one. Albey couldn't say for sure, as all I could give him was pictures, but he said that it looked like one to him. I am confident, as the seller is, that he is a Pastel Yellowbelly.

The pictures on Albey's site are baby pictures and this guy looked similar to that when he was small as well. He stood out in the clutch of yellowbelly's, pastel's and normals and he was the only y/b pastel in the clutch. I believe, and Keo confirmed for me, that as they grow older (mine is 600 grams) they can lose that crazy blushing up the sides and mature into what he and others look like now. This is one of the most insane looking Pastel's, color wise, that Brian Gundy of For Goodness Snakes or Keo has ever seen. Brian even went so far as he rated this guy a 9.5-10 out of 10 just on the Pastel aspect of it.

I appreciate you asking about him though, as it made me go on a quest to get several other more experienced opinions on him and I learned a LOT about Yellowbelly's in the process. So for that I thank you! But as they say, the proof's in the pudding! I will be breeding this guy this year to a couple of different females, so I will hopefully get some results and when I do, I will post them. I have another picture of him for you to see some more of the blushing on him and thought I'd post my favorite photo of the Lemon Blast as well. My camera is only an iphone, so I'm sure I'm not capturing his true beauty and colors/blushing, but trust me, in person….this guy screams! Thanks again!

Thanks for the response and the new photo- he looks great! I meant no harm by my inquiry, I was merely protecting and watching out for your back! I agree that yellowbellys have a wide range of variation and especially as we start to combine more and more visual morphs into a single animal, it becomes more difficult to distinguish with certainty the true genetics.
Trust me, once you dive deeper into the "bp world" unfortunately you may find that there are individuals who will compromise their integrity for monetary gains. Honestly, I have some snakes I'm holding back just because I'm not 100% sure of the genetics so I would rather test breed them myself to be sure. Below is an example- first photo is a normal banana with a lesser and the second photo is a pastel banana (possible yellowbelly?) Only way to prove genetics is hold back and test breed!

Like I said, thank you! It's always best to get several sets of eyes on certain animals. After reading your post, all I could think about was getting some other opinions. I feel sorry for the breeder as he was starting to question himself as well! He guaranteed generics and was willing to take them back if I wasn't totally happy. Good guy. But after Keo looked at them today, I'm confident.

As for your bananas...I'd say they are bunk and I'd send them to me just to be safe! Wouldn't want those getting in the wrong hands, disgusting as they are! :D
