I've just about had it with crickets. Best staples?

They're messy, they're smelly, they're a pain in the bum. I'm going to order some silkworms for my bearded dragon but that leads me to ask..

What are good staple alternatives for leos? I'm looking in the worm department. I've heard there's a lot of bad mojo going around with the meal worms, so what else is there?

We use dubia roaches. They are sooooo much better than crickets. They don't smell and can't climb to escape.

Oh, you've no idea how much I'd love to get roaches. I'd save so much money. But my mother won't allow it.

Phoenix worms might be a good option, my dragon can munch on a few of those, too, for variety.

Can leos eat silkies?

You should persuade your mom until she lets you get roaches! I'm scared of crickets, but I have no problem with breeding dubia roaches. They seem very clean, no smell, can't jump, and do not climb vertical surfaces. I tried silkworm before, but their silk can be messy too.

Silkworms are low in fat content and are a high source of Calcium, Vitamins B1, B2, and B3, Protein, Iron, Magnesium and Sodium. Mulberry leaves are their main source of food. Roaches, Phoenix worms, and wax worms are good sources that are available. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I wouldn't use waxworms as a stample, addicting. Try superworms, all of my geckos like them and if your gecko doesn't like them I bet your dragon will they could be his stample if he's a adult aswell.

hmm....so would my leo eat the roaches at 2 months old? These crickets are making it difficult to sleep and they smell.

Your gecko should be able to eat the nymphs, they might look a bit big but she should be fine.

Just as an update, I ordered silkworms and phoenix worms. Depending on who likes what, I may end up giving a combination of both to my BD and Val.
