Recently I have seen a number of posts (mostly on other forums) by people saying that they have a lavendar leopard gecko. When I take a look, it usually turns out that the gecko is a young juvie. In my experience, most young juvies go through a lavendar phase before it fades to yellow or tangerine. In the same way, I find that a lot of geckos go through a "green" phase as they're losing their spots until that fades to tang. At what point would you all consider the gecko to be truly lavendar (or "emerine")? I wouldn't mind having an article about this for Gecko Time by the way.

We hatch out lavender on a lot of babies but I won't call them lavender until they're 30+ grams and still show a solid amount of it, and come from lavender line. I have a lavender reverse stripe raptor with 80% + carrot tail that I bought from ron tremper and is a breeder here , she's gorgeous. Let me know if you would like a picture of her for your writings.

Emerines are a tricky one to talk about because it can cause some controversy.. Same with extreme emerines :). I have hatched out tangerines that have absolutely no emerine in them and they display green on the body(sometimes a lot of it). I would never call these emerines or "possible" emerines because they did not come from an emerine line.

I believe that the green on these is caused by the darker spotting or banding fading out and the orange or tangerine color showing through it that cause a green "hue". We usually see this fade by the time a gecko is 2-3 months old.

Ofcourse this is is just my opinion from my experiences.

25-30g in pic, this is the start of my Lav Glow Project and he has some nice siblings I hope retain Lav as well as him! Lav is thrown around alot, usually with snow crosses. True Lavs do not need snow and you can't really know if you have a true lav until about 30g.

"From Lav Lines" should be more appropriate for babies, but I guess i am also one of the culprits...

In morphs like these, I NEVER state it is something unless I know FOR SURE that it has those blood lines. For instance, I breed Pacific Greens (Pacific Gecko's line of emerine) and I call them that because I know their lineage back many generations and I know that Pacific Gecko produced them, so I'm confident in call them them Pacific Greens. Otherwise I would stay away from labels like those.

I bought a beautiful gecko advertised as a lavender bold stripe. At 30 grams she still had plenty of lavender, but a year and a month later she has just about no lavender on her. I think that in order to offer a gecko as a lavender, it must retain it into adulthood. If you want a lavender gecko ask to see photos of the parents to ascertain whether they have held this color.
