I have a fifty-five gallon aquarium and a thirty gallon leopard gecko tank. Theoretically, I could move the Leo to a ten gallon or twenty long, change the thirty to an aquarium, and convert the 55 to a Crestie tank. My questionss are....

1) How many (Female) cresties could I keep in the 55 gallon? (Standard size)

2) Do you think it would be a good idea?

3) Would the 55 make a good breeding tank, moving the male in for two months out of the year and then putting him back in his own 15 gallon?

mmm IDK I didnt get much enthusiasm when I mentioned a 45 gallon for cresties but who knows... I dont actually own any at this time and have very little experience so not sure what to tell you.

I guess for breeding it might be difficult to find eggs in a cage that large if it were a naturalistic environment or the crestie decided to lay where it wasnt supposed to...

I keep my quartets in 29 gals. tanks. Never had a fight or an issue. What I would do though is plan on multiple feeding stations. I would feel comfortable with 8 females in a tanks that large and well planted and branched. I would plan on the mating thing outside of the tank because its too many girls for a fella to handle....

So would I be better off just using a 29 gallon for them? And it would be a simplistic enclosure. I've already lost an adult Crestie on the supposedly "safe" eco earth substrate.

here are the Measurements i use

One adult gecko - something along the lines of 1.5 x 1.5 x 2.0 (WxDxH (in ft.)) should be fine for one adult gecko

Juvenile - Up to around 4-5 inches, something like the 11.75" x 7.75" x 8" kritter keeper would be a suitable container. Small sub adults would be fine in an 12"x12"x18" (WxDxH) vivarium.

Pair - Something a little bigger than the size above for one adult, so something like 2x2x2.5 (WxDxH (in ft.)) would be a good spacious vivarium for a pair.

That's not good. I've had my vivarium setup (40g Breeder) for well over 2 years now with no issues. Eco earth on bottom and Pothos plants all over the place. I currently house 1.4 cresties and have had no issues whatsoever. I only have one feeding station and LOVE how they all gather around it whenever I add the CGD.

Well you would need toQT each female before she went into the 55 gallon. But IMO a 29 is a bit on the small side for 4 adult females (barely 7 gallons of space per gecko). Personally I would have said 4-5 females in a 55 gallon, and I personally used to keep 4 females in a 55 gallon. Sometimes you just get lucky and females get along, but they really should have a bit more space to call their own. And not all females will get along, I have two that have lived together for a year then suddenly started fighting, I had to remove them from the 18 x 18 x 24 and put them in a 29 with a tank divider between the two of them (giving them almost 15 gallon a piece). So just because they are girls will not mean they will like eachother and the smaller the tank, the more likely they will fight.
