Hey guys! I just got my first Leopard Gecko yesterday at Repti-Con. It is a male Hypo Tangerine. I put the UTH under the tank yesterday, but I don't know if it is heating up. The warm side is 80 degrees and the cool side is 75 degrees. He has not gone to the warm side yet at least I don't think so? Why is this? Any help will be much appreciated! God Bless - Moefv

UTH's can be slow to heat up, but if it's been running since yesterday then it really should be warmer than 80 degrees by now.

What substrate are you using? How big is your tank and what size UTH do you have?

Also, check to make sure you don't have an air vent blowing near the underside of the tank. One of our tanks is sitting on a table right next to an AC vent. We had to shut the vent off because the heatmat just couldn't overcome the constant stream of cool air.

I wouldn't be too worried about your leo staying on the cool side just yet. Some prefer the cool or humid hide while they settle in. Once he's more comfortable, you'll see him move about more. He should seek out the heat on his own when he needs to, just give him a few days.

Make sure the UTH is actually against the glass. If not the heat will escape around the tank.

I have a 10 gallon with a gallon UTH. He is almost at his full size. He is very tame and docile and doesn't care if you pick him up, but is very active. Also when I have seen him he has been most of the time on the cool side rather than the warm side. Thanks for the help guys! God Bless - Moefv
