This little one stood out like a sore thumb! What is heshe? He/she looked sick (as did all the others...some MUCH worse...) and I felt really bad for him/her so I took him/her home. For $24.99, I couldn't leave it. I may go back and buy two more tomorrow =\

Anyway...What the heck IS it? By no means is this a normal in my eyes!

That looks like a patty, maybe a patty albino??

Keep the floor temps at 90, feed him crickets/mealies provide a humid and a dry hide.

Well, my help was mostly in identifying =) I have him/her in a small holder tank for right now as I can't put him/her in w/my big kids...I'm going to my friend's store tomorrow to get a proper set-up going. He'll be on top of my large male's set-up, so it will be plenty warm. They had the tank at the store at 75 =\ Ambient in my house is 80!

I was supposed to get a Tokay this week...Not another leo! lol... Pretty little one though...So I'm not complaining =)

Well good for you, i did the same a month ago, and i know what you mean the rest in the tank needed saving, mine is also a patternless, only it is VERY dark. Good luck!

Well she/he doesn't look TOO bad, I've seen far far worse. Looks like a fairly young hatchling. She'll grow up to be big and beautiful if you keep her temps right and feed her gutloaded mealworms/crickets, whatever she prefers.

I vote regular Patternless with 99% certainty. Just remember that giving the pet store another $50 only adds to their sales for the month and lets them order more tiny Leos from breeders who are moss producing them....just my 2 cents...not worth much...

I know you feel like you're saving him but I wonder, when you buy one don't they order more to restock? Seems to be fuel on the fire.

Cool gecko though, best of luck with him. Looks like a pretty patternless to me, with age (s)he will loose the pattern.

But if people DONT buy them then they just die, and they restock anyhow, so at least people can save a few in the process right??

Its cute! A lot nicer then the ones I've seen in petstores he just needs some food.

Once I walked into petland they had this little normal it was like 3inches gasping for air (I could see his labored breathing, it was horrible), his shed was all torn apart, eyes all crusted over and on like 3inches of sand PLUS crickets that were like one inch long. I was disgusted, i was about to open the tank myself and run but I wouldnt have known how to take care of him and it didnt look like he'd last much longer. Instead I told the manager, idiot said he's just fine, I checked on him a few minutes ago. I left my stuff on the counter and walked away.

Just thought I might add that.

Best of luck with your new Leo, you might want to get it checked for parasites and stuff just to be on the safe side.

Yes, it is a little patty.

When you pay money for a gecko in bad shape, you are not rescuing it. You are only allowing the store to continue to keep and sell geckos, no matter what shape they are in. What kind of incentive do they have to take better care of their animals if people will buy them anyway, regardless of their condition?

I know it's hard to turn you back on a living creature that is not being cared for properly, but a $24.95 gecko could very well turn into a $150 veterinary nightmare and a broken heart.

Well, I understand what you all are saying...but they KNOW something is wrong, as they are normally $45 and were marked to $24.99.

I bought only the gecko there, and honestly will never return to the store. My friend owns a small store, and I'll be seeing him today for the rest of the set-up.

They had all of the geckos (about 20 of them) in sand w/a little bowl that had a few mealies in it...no water available (a water dish, but no water...I brought this to the employee's attention and she put water in).

I know I didn't really "rescue" this guy...I merely purchased him. But I liked him, and it, for some reason, made me feel a little better.

The good news is all their other animals looked to be in good shape...Including their ball pythons, which normally are what I see in the worst shape in chain stores.

So call! Research, research, research. If it is a MAJOR pet store contact corporate. Call the manager of the store.

To S-K, I did not mean to turn this around on you -- I just see a lot of these types of threads and never reply with what I want to say.. you just happened to be the first I did. Sorry ;).

I understand and agree, Select.

Johnny: In my case, I will be calling the store to speak with the manager, and paying a visit this afternoon after a chiropractor appointment. As I said, all their other reps looked in great shape...But the leos were hurting. I think it may have also been a bit of an issue with overcrowding...There were at LEAST 20 in a 10gal size viv, and only at ~75deg =/

If the stores are petco's, call the Petco Hotline...the number should be posted around the cages. Corporate will send people in "disguise" to check out the conditions and the store will get in trouble if they are not satisfactory. Any ill or injured animals are supposed to be isolated and taken to a veterinarian.....that is the store policy....many individual stores do not properly follow policy. Calling the hotline *should* get something done.

yea i was mainly concerned about the leo's also but the others are a concern too because if they treat the leo's like that what makes the others any different.
