After much careful consideration,(and after keeping almost 20 different gecko species as pets over the years),I can safely say that gargoyle geckos are quite possibly the best pet gecko you can get (that isn't high-end,I haven't had the pleasure of trying them yet.) They are fairly large, very laid back, capable of significant color change (I believe based mainly on ambient light levels), ridiculously gentle, and can thrive solely on crested gecko diet if you have a moral dilemma with feeding live insects.plus, they require no special lighting or heating, doing best at room temps around 75° or so.you don't even need an incubator for the eggs, just a tupperware container and a closet shelf.flat out, one of the most bullet-proof reptiles available for beginners, also.oh, and they're ALL captive born, as New Caledonia has been shut down as far as exporting any new wild caught geckos for years.ok, that's probably enough fan-boy for the moment, here's a couple pics of my babies... 2012-03-17_22-19-11_956.jpg

Beautiful! I don't know why they aren't as popular as cresties, they seem like they'd make great pets. And I didn't know they could eat only CGD, that just makes them even better in my book!

From my personal experience, they are calmer than cresties.i'm hoping to get myself a baby leachie this summer, fingers crossed.

I've always thought gargoyles are gorgeous. I love the coloring on that one but I could see why others may not care for them...

The only downside I have found so far is that they don't seem to be as prolific as cresteds or leopards, but time could prove me wrong

I've got my fingers crossed for you too! I've always loved leachies, but they're too expensive for me. As long as I can live vicariously through someone else, I'm fine with that. :p

They're probably too expensive for me, too.that's why i'm starting a savings account,I hope to have close to $400 by mid-August, when the next GOOD reptile show comes back to my area. If I can't find my leachie, I'll likely be able to find a pair of mossy or lined leaftails
