So I finally got a pair for this season, hahaha. I am curious though as to what side you all put your laybox on. Hot side or cold side. I have an incubator that I will be transfering the eggs to. I know some people put their humid hides on the warm side and some put theirs on the cool side. Is it the same deal with the layboxes though?? = )

I put my laybox where I have room for it, usually on the cold side, since I have multiple hides on the hot side (I house my male and females together for the whole season). However, if I'm going away for the weekend, I move things around to put the lay box on the hot side in case someone lays eggs at the beginning of the period.

Aliza, I am actually very interested in housing my geckos together. Could you maybe elaborate on how big of a tank you put them in and how many hides you need for how many geckos?? Thanks!! = )

I keep my geckos in groups of 1.2 or 1.3. They are in 20 long tanks, but in addition I have a second level that's 12"x12" and heated. I usually have 2-3 hides on the bottom level and 1 hide on the top. Everyone seems to do OK and I have not seen any aggression. Ideally, I try to separate the males into their own individual enclosures from about Oct. - Jan. after which I re-group the females depending on my breeding plans and introduce the males. This past year I had so many babies that there weren't many tanks available for the males so they didn't get that much time apart. It didn't seem to make much difference. I find that even the male who is kept all year round with a non-breeding (doesn't ovulate) very reclusive female, is not interested in the female in the winter and then gets interested again in Feb. or so (not that it does him much good). Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the info tony. Aliza how did you put a second level and heat it?? That sounds very creative??

Long story short, 4 dowels for legs (in the picture below I handmade ceramic legs, but dowels are fine), PVC "feet" to stabilize the legs, 2 12"x12" ceramic tiles with a zoo-med mini UTH in between. I find no need to anchor anything; it's pretty stable.
