So I fed my young beardie greens for the first time today. Wasnt sure how he would take to it. Grabbed a couple small Butter Leaf Lettuce from the garden and he devoured them! Then I read that leaf lettuce isnt too good for them.
So going over the ever so handy list someone posted I grabbed some celery out of the fridge and tore off a few leaves to see what he thought of that.
Well apparently either lettuce tastes better, or hes full from that because the celery is still there....
But needless to say introducing veggies and such into his diet seems to be easier than I thought.

I feed kale and it works VERY well.(except for the fact that sometimes he doesn't want to eat his delicious greens, but I gut load my mealies w/it and they LOVE it!)

the reason plain lettuce isnt good for him, is it has no nutrition what so ever...just like humans, you need to feed him romain or a lettuce like that with more nutrition.

Yeah, I know things like iceberg are no good for them... thought maybe the butter lettuce might be a little better. He liked it! Thats for sure!
I will pick up some Kale and let him try that. We gut-load his crickets so hes getting good food, just trying the greens to supplement his food and give him some variety. Love to switch it up, I know I get bored eating the same thing everyday. :p

I had to throw out a bag of mustard greens and a bag of kale before I tried turnip greens, and that ended up being a big hit with my picky little (well, he's big now) monster.

The store I got him from was feeding him romaine lettuce, and it took me forever to ween him off of that.

I haven't tried them, but I heard banana can be a big hit (but should only be used as a treat)

Yes...that list is the BEST. I printed it out in color and laminated it, and when I shop for the beardie I take it with me to the supermarket. :)

Dragons are picky eaters for sure. My juv loves celery leaves best of all but does fine with most any veg I give her. Yellow squash makes her regurg tho. She ate a tender cooked baby carrot from Cracker Barrel on her vaca.

I love her :smitten:

A little butter lettuce as a treat would be ok. Like, do a mix of mostly kale, basil, and stick in a little bit of lettuce. That way your dragon gets the deliciousness and he gets the nutrition too.

There are studies that show that human women who eat iceberg lettuce actually lower their breast cancer risk - so there's got to be something in lettuce that we don't know about.
