check VMSherp.com and look at the for sale section. Check out the "genetics for herps" book. It's about $12 shipped.

There are some good books out there, but NOTHING will teach you what you experience will. Breed what you love, and you'll be witness to things that will completely blow your mind...Mother nature must've been a magician in a previous life :D

I've seen Pritzel's Genetics for Herpers, and it is pretty good.

I have not seen any of the books that specifically target leopard geckos. But my experience is that the books and web sites written by herpers for herpers are poor (or worse) at teaching genetics, aside from Genetics for Herpers. In my opinion, your best bet is to get a genetics text, learn the principles, and then apply them to what you read in these forums and to your own breeding.

I like Elrod and Stansfield's book, Schaum's Outline of Genetics, because of its problem-solving orientation and low price.

Wilmer Miller's text, A Survey of Genetics, can be downloaded in four parts from his web site, http://www.ringneckdove.com. But you need a fast connection.

Agreed.
I purchased this book on Paul's recommendation a few years ago and found it to be invaluable.

I would second the first response and recommend going to vmsherp.com you can find the book mentioned above which is pretty easy to follow. Sean also has a ton of information regarding genetics on his site and after you get the basics down you can dig deeper. A solid understanding of the basics is the best way to start and build from there.

Mike, I love your avatar! :smitten: Do you know who the artist is? I'd really like to see more work by him/her! :main_yes:

And thanks for the tips on genetics books, guys. I, too, would like to learn more about this fascinating topic.

I get asked that question so often, that I have resorted to keeping a "canned" response on file:

It's a depiction of a mythical Peruvian Naga by the artist Heather "Kyoht" Baeder. You can see more of her work at: http://kyoht.com

She has produced some amazing work. I encourage everyone to purchase some of her prints. They are of excellent quality and are very affordable.

Ahaha, great--I feel so 'unspecial' now.

Thanks for the info, though!

No need to feel that way.
It is an incredible picture by a very talented artist.
I requested permission from her to use it as an avatar as soon as I saw it.

I also purchased prints - she has some wonderful art.

btw, another good book is "Genetics - a beginners guide" by
b. guttman, a. griffiths, d. suzuki, and t. cullis.

Both have been very helpful to me.

You know, you're right! :) I checked out her site. I think I may have to order a print from her!

And thanks for the other tips. I'll be sure to check them out.
