Leg rash?

This gecko shed last night, and this morning has some sort of injury, or rash? The skin looks extremely irritated and red, almost like some sort of burn. We've never seen of anything like this, never even heard of it before. Tried to pick it up with the camera, but couldn't get a clear picture. I did catch her biting it though... Any ideas?

Maybe there is some stuck shed and she is irritated by the dryness and is trying to get it off with her mouth.. the biting itself could cause redness if shes really going at it. Are there any kind of bumps you can see if you can get close????

Sorry , cant quite tell from that picture. I am assuming there is nothing in the tub she could have scraped it on. hopefully she doesn't start self mutilating herself. the only thing I can think of is maybe a reaction to the glue on the TP roll. but I doubt it. maybe it is another enigma trate we have yet to uncover with that crossing.

She has been with that TP roll since hatching (Feb 19), and there hasn't been a problem before. I don't think that possibilty could be completely ruled out, though. Also, the only "furniture" she has are two TP roll halves, a water dish and a calcium dish. The dishes are just bottle tops.

We think something happened during the shedding process, as mentioned, and she was still shedding when I took the pictures. She has shed completely, but we think she may have had a problem with that leg. Her tub was misted last night, so she likely wasn't too dry. We think she'll be back to normal quickly, as it hasn't affected her mobility or hunting. She doesn't seem to be in pain, but possibly irritated.

We emailed a qualified herp vet, and are waiting/hoping to hear from him.

I'm curious to hear what he says...please let us know what he thinks when you hear from him. IMO, it appears as if he did indeed have an issue with that leg...I would think that if it was some type of reaction to something you would have more generalized redness covering most, if not all of the leo. I think maybe the little guy made himself worse by self mutilation, as previously mentioned, as you have posted evidence of ;) Too bad they don't make leopard gecko elizabethen collars. Best wishes with her!

Well, we never got a reply from the vet, but she seems to be healing well. We've been applying a tiny amount of neosporin to her leg, which became a bit of a scab, every other day. At this point, she seems about 60% healed, and we think she'll continue to get better everyday.

I'm glad she's improving! That's kind of a shame the vet never got back to you...I was curious about this one...keep an eye on it next time she sheds and see if it happens again. She's too pretty to be chewing on herself like that! ;)
