I've been posting for the past few days on a seperate forum (whilst waiting for confirmation on this one) about my new leo, i believe him to be 6-9 weeks old and he/she is my first reptile of any kind.

My set-up is fine and i have tried pretty much all the regular suggestions to my problem with no massive improvement....

The whole story is way too much to re-cap in one post so if the mods don't mind (as it is in the interest of animal health) i'd like to post this link to the post i mentioned before....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take some time to look over the topic as i am in dire need of assistance, also if anyone lives in/near Hastings in East Sussex i was wondering if they could possibly help physically as local herp shop is shite and i'm a n00b! :(

Just wondering (I have no insight to your issue really, except you need more humidity perhaps) but why do you say red bulbs are unnecessary? Or rather, why do you think it may have contributed to the problem? (ignore me if I misunderstood the last part of your paragraph)

Well because i was of the understanding that Leopard Gecko's didn't need an overhead lamp (provided they got good natural daylight to distinguish between day and night) because Leo draw their body heat from the floor so a UTH is a much better way of getting said heat to them. Plus they are nocturnal.

Also, because his skin is so dry looking, despite the fact he has a VERY moist hide which he's only recently started using, dozens of people on another forum suggested that maybe the unecessary extra heat from the bulb might have dried him out too much before he started using the moist box!

A specialist gecko forum and i get ONE reply which isn't helpful in any way whatsoever! I find it hard to beleive (and i'm not just talking about this forum) that there are so many breeders and keepers and even shops who use these types of forums yet no one has had a problem the same as mine? Oh yes everyone has had a 'bit' left over on the feet or head but why has no one had it at this scale before???? I'm really worried as i only know what i've read in the past couple of months on Gecko's but there's no one i can physically ask for help!

Around.
I understood you said eating, drinking, and pooping well.. but how is the gecko actually acting? Lethargic is it trying to scratch the skin off.. honestly there is nothing else you can do but soak it and try to get the skin off.. if I have a jumpy baby.. I just use my fingers, you can get near them with tweezers as you've seen. What's in the moist hide? Where is it located? Do you have anything for the gecko to rub itself on, some just don't know or just don't eat the skin, or try to pull it off.

And it is probably due the stress..

Between two terrariums
Red bulbs aren't the same as white basking bulbs, just for clarity's sake.

Mine hasn't had any shed problems he was unable to solve by sitting in the moist hide or the water dish. Sorry. :( [n00b stupid] Can you like, get him to eat a lot in one sitting so he's bigger and the skin breaks around the stomach? [/n00b stupid] :sweatdrop:

Well he's quite lethargic, just site either lookin out his moist hide or in a cave looking out, he's fairly active when i feed him but that's about the only time.

He has a moist hide made from a round plastic pot with a door in the side, i've tried it off the heat mat, half on the heat mat and all the way on the heat mat, he prefers it when it is all the way on.

He has numerous surfaces to rub himself on but when it started he chose the floor! which isn't very rough, but now he's not even rubbing himself, just sittin there lookin pissed off!

he's really fast and skittish so he practically climbs up my hand and out the box when i try to reach in with a cotton bud after he's had a soaking.

It's been days and days and i've tried most things that he'll let me try without going nuts! i really don't know what to do, it's making me wish i had got a much older more settled leo :(
