My friend recently got a new leopard gecko from the NY Metro Reptile Expo. I am not sure as to what vendor.

Since being brought home the Leo has not opened his eyes once. Hes squirmy and it looks like he might have something in his eyes. What can my friend do?

Make sure he isn't closing his eyes and acting uncomfortable because of the light. Albinos often are very sensitive to light and will refuse to open their eyes in the presence of it.

Lena is correct albinos are more sensative to light what Morph is your friends gecko?
I purchased a hybino bell at the westchester Reptile expo over the summer. My leo would keep his eyes shut too the guy i bought my leo from said it was because of the light at the show that caused irritation. Also the stress from travel and entering a new environment could contribute to it. After a week or so my leo became more active and started to open his eyes more. Now he is my healthiest most energetic leopard gecko I own. His eyes are perfectly fine now. Keep the lights off in the room your gecko is in and try not to use heat lamps use an under tank heater and keep the room at room temp so you wont need the extra heat from a lamp. Remember Geckos are nocturnal so they like to be in the Dark. Hope that helped. If you try all the things i suggested and your gecko is still not opening his eyes then i suggest bringing him to a reptile vet. Gook Luck.

He is not albino, I don't think. I've never had a leopard gecko... don't know a thing about morphs.

What about his UV light? Do they not need that? Can he put in a red or black light for heat since I have some spare bulbs?

Make sure your friend has read some care sheets and is clear on leopard gecko care. For example, if you're asking whether he can put in more light for heat, do you mean that there is no heat at the moment, or are you wondering if there is enough heat. If the gecko isn't being kept properly, it will not feel very good and will not open its eyes. We could tell you the gecko's morph if you can provide a picture. I think there are care sheets on the forums. My care sheet is here: http://geckcessories.wordpress.com.

Feel free to ask more questions and we'll do our best.

the most likely reason is the UV i would remove that asap

also have they got a UTH (under tank heater)
you can use a red light but if the gecko has no black spots no light at all is best
