Today I was at a local pet store and almost cried. There was a leo that was not being cared for properly. If I get my way I will be bringing it home. Here is the problem. The poor thing has dried up shed on its toes and on half of its face. What do you suggest I do to help this poor animal. I have a leopard gecko who has never had a problem shedding so I am unsure. Would shed ease do the job? Thanks- Megan

Purchasing this animal will just make room for another gecko to be cared for improperly. It would encourage the pet store to get more since they will make more off your purchase then what they actually paid for it. IMO, buy a healthy gecko. That encourages those who take proper care of their animals to continue producing.

+1 It may "seem wrong" but the best thing to do is "try" and forget about the gecko. As mentioned, buying the gecko will help the pet store make a PROFIT from the sale. And in turn, they will take that $ and purchase MORE geckos.

Try mentioning the conditions to the manager and see if they do anything about it. If not, make a complaint to the humane society.

I saw the same thing at PetSmart two weeks ago. I sent a complaint to head office and they got back to me the next say saying they will forward my complaint to the store manager. A day later, I got a reply saying that they had brought the gecko to the vet and that they were sorry.
Who knows if they actually did it, but atleast their head office knows a customer was unhappy.

When I went in there I said something to the manager and then a month later I went in again and nothing was done. I mentioned it to an employee and they said they had been trying to help it but didn't know what to do. It just makes me mad that someone would let an animal get that bad and not try and help it. It makes the petstore look bad. Thank you guys for the suggestions. I think I'm gonna go on their website and email the owners about it.

i had a similar experience a few months back when I bought a leo from a petshop that was in bad shape "had a 3 year old with me & those of ya'll that gots kids know how big of a distraction they can be" got the girl about a quarter of the way home before we noticed all the problems it had
we took it back got a refund & told them exactly how to fix the issue. the problem was corncob substrate, and a month later low & behold everything was exactly the same. all 3 of the leos where still in ruff shape, the one we almost took home was a little better but the crappy corn cob was not removed and they where still being warmed with a light bulb. we don't shop there for anything no feeder no dog food nothing.
Leos are stupid easy to take care of!
