Leopard Gecko Is Sick :/

Hi,
I have a 7 year old female leopard gecko named Lilly. Recently I noticed that she was having problems shedding, and an odd film was across her eye. I took her to the vet, and they gave me 2 eye drops i have to apply twice per day (one for inflamation and one for possible infection). They told me the humidity wasn't high enough, which was causing all the problems. So ive raised that the past few days. Now, Lilly won't eat at all. At first I thought she simply couldn't see the food, but even force feeding wont work. I've tried offering mealworms in her cage, force- feeding mealworms, and crushing up insects and trying to force feed through a syringe. Nothing is working. Please help.

Sometimes the antibiotic makes them not want to eat. Keep offering food, give her the rest of the antibiotics and try not to worry. Reptiles sometimes go awhile without eating. Most of my adults are barely eating because it's winter.

I honestly don't know if this is true, but my vet feels strongly that leopard geckos develop eye problems because they are kept at to high a temperature and dehydration results. There is another vet who feels that eye problems can be due to lack of vitamin A. In order to deal with both possibilities, it makes sense to make sure that the air temperature (not the floor temp) isn't above mid-70's and that you are supplementing properly.

I was actually worried about dehydration as well. After the vet we switched her substrate from sand to newspaper, and now her water dish is way higher than the floor. Im worried that she's not getting into the water dish. Ive had her for years and only seen her drink a few times, so i could just be missing it, but i want to make sure she's getting water.

I would say just chill out and leave a dish with some mealworms dusted with Repashy Calcium Plus in her cage, force feeding her and fretting over her will stress her out and definitely won't help the healing process. Give her the antibiotics as directed and see how she turns out. She might also benefit from having a "gecko sauna" a couple of times a day. Just get some 93 degree water (give or take a degree) just up to her elbows. Put her in there and loosely cover the top. Let her soak for about 10 minutes each time. I also would make sure she has a humid hide to go into. This should help rehydrate her. Hope your baby gets better soon!

Is she underweight? If not if could also be because she's preparing for winter. A lot of leos go off food for a while around this time of year. It could also be the antibiotics or inability to see. I would pick up a cheap gram scale and weigh her once a week to make sure she's maintaining her weight. If she starts to lose a bit of weight (depending on how chunky she is) I would start to worry about her not eating.

make sure you have a wet hide with moss or wet paper and that you havnt just raised the humidity in the whole tank as that could cause respiratory problems.
check that your vit and mineral supplement has vit A as this is important for shedding and skin condition.
