Hello I am fairly new to the forum and I have a question. Can I cover my Leopard Geckos Night Light with a towel or blanket? I am wondering because I will be keeping my Leopard Gecko in my room and don't want the light to disturb me. Thank you and I am looking forward to your replies! God Bless - Moefv

He does not a need a night light. You should have an UTH(Under-tank heater) that is running 24 hours a day. The natural sunlight that comes into your room is the only light he needs. Red lights should only be used for viewing them at night and i feel that they are completely unneccesary

Hello thank you for the advice! So the night light is only for viewing purposes? I thought they needed one so they would know the day/night cycle? So I bought a blue light for the night and a day light (basking light) I believe it is called. Does he need a day light? Also I do have a tank heater that run 24 hours! Thank you for your response! He needs just the belly heat, no lights at all. The natural light in your room is enough of a cycle for him. Also I believe you would start a fire if you covered a light with a blanket.

Ok so I don't need any kind of bulb correct? I am wondering because I read that they do need a light but I got that from Wiipedia so haha they are not always correct. Thank you for your help! God Bless - Moefv

You dont need a light if your girlfriend isnt a polar bear like mine and cant sleep without 65 degree air conditioner. :)

I have a 75 wat infrared heat bulb, bit i dont having facing down in one spot, instead i have clamped to the edge of the tank n facing the pther side of the tank, just to keep the "ambient" temperature in the 80's

Now make surs to get a digital probe i got mine from petsmart for like 10 bucks, just because those UTH mats can get very hot , i notice mine reached 115 one time, until i got a regular lamp dimmer from home depot for like 12 bucks n played around with it until the temperature stayed at a stable 90 degrees during the day and of course dropped to 83 at night.

We only use LED lights during the day, (they are very efficient, and do not add to the temperature) and a red bulb for viewing at night.

They do not need a light at night.
