Leopard Gecko Tank Question?

Hello everyone, I have like two questions..
First off my gecko seems to be sleeping during the day and then night, he eats then goes back into his hide with his eyes closed...is it to cold in his cage or should I turn off all my lights around 10pm??

This next question may be and answer to the first but not sure...
The picture below is my tank...Im not sure if it is to big or not, I do not know the actual size/gallons because it was given to me by a family member but the tank is fairly big. The rock is a large one. Should I downgrade to a 10 gallon? The gecko was bought from a petstore (I know a pet store) so not sure on the age, I will way him once I get a scale. But he seems fairly old/big. So what would you all reccomend? He stays on his hot side then if he wants moves to cold then to the humid hide in shed so he moves around when he wants..but would the big tank have anything to do with him sleeping during day and night?

Welcome to GF!

Leopard geckos are lazy creatures. Some of them seem to stay in their hides all the time. Some of them sleep a lot in winter. Are you heating with under tank heater? If you have separate lights for the cage you probably don't need them. If you mean that you would turn off the lights in the room at 10 that's fine too, though I'm usually in my living room till pretty late at night and the geckos don't seem to mind the room light. The tank is probably fine in size.

Yes I am using an UTH for the size of the tank. And yeah its just now turning winter here so that could be a possibility. I never thought about that! I guess since im new to leopard geckos I tend to get worried over anything haha. Thanks for the reply! :)

Size wont be an issue, only if it was too small. I read plenty of times that bigger is better so keep the tank buddy

I would also invest in a probe thermometer! They are much better at gushing the ground/ambient temperatures than a strip or otherwise. (In still somewhat new, and bought all three. Haha. ) but the probe is definitely most helpful. :)
