For some reason when I posted this it didn't include the text , only the pictures, so here it is:
Hello.
Today I went to pick up this leopard gecko from a woman who no longer wanted it. After getting to her house and getting a good look at the gecko I discovered she seems to have MBD. Her front legs are a bit twisted, and instead of walking on her "paws" or feet she walks on the whole forearm. Her back legs seem to be fine, except once in a while her back foot will be twisted underneath her body. But the back legs seem to move and function normally. She also seems to have a spine or rib deformity, I can't tell which. All I can say is her back looks to be bent to the side, depending on which way the gecko is positioned. Similar to a hump back. But when she's completely stretched out straight she had two bumps (her ribs?) on each side of her. If you look at the picture with my finger pointing to her, you can see the bump directly in front of my finger. I tried to get pictures of her arms and back as well.
I also think she has stunted growth? My youngest leopard gecko is roughly 3 months old and is 27 grams. This new gecko is also 27 grams but it's tail is MUCH thicker and it's head is MUCH bigger and more broad. Her tail and head are about the same size as my oldest leopard geckos, he is 68 grams. But she has the weight of my youngest gecko, so I'm a bit confused. Thoughts?
Lastly, I dont think her bones hurt her, but I honestly can't tell. She does seem to be... Tired, but she's not lethargic. When I picked her up to put her in her new tank she was freaking out and flopping around, like a normal scared gecko would, but when I put her in the tank she ran about 5 inches, then slowed down and looked around, and then laid down! She didn't shut her eyes, and she looked like she was breathing relatively heavily.
Do you think she has MBD and/or stunted growth? Or maybe she broke her bones and they didn't heal correctly? Do you think it hurts her? Is there anything I can do? (Besides give her the appropriate amount of calcium and food she needs).
Also, if anyone knows what morph she is that would be great.
Thanks!
I do think she has MBD. Correct supplementation will probably not "cure" it but would keep it from progressing. I'm guessing that the spinal abnormalities you see are due to the MBD as well, as the spine softens and deforms. In the first picture, she does look like she has a smaller, shorter body and a normal sized head, but it doesn't look that way in the other pictures. I would guess she's just differently proportioned than the other gecko you have that is the same weight. She's very pretty.
