Hello I am getting 12 ball pythons on Monday from Mark Petros
I'm sure his snakes are healthy but I was wondering if I can keep the snake on the same rack with two to three levels seperating them. I know a lot of breeder keep Leo's and snake in the room.

Thanks

I keep all my reptiles and tarantulas in the same room and have never had any problems. I do however quarantine all new animals in a different room of the house for 90 days to make sure there are no health issues.

Why would your snake have mites?

He did say "if" a snake gets mites. You can get mites from a number of places and things. Alot of large snake collections can have issues with mites. They can be in the substrate you use, decor you buy, they can get on your cloths from a pet store or a reptile expo, just to name a few. IMO its a valid question.

Can or will Leo's get snake mite if by chance a snake gets mites in the same room.

I guess its possible but not likely. I have never seen a leopard gecko with mites but I assume thats because of the dry conditions they are kept in versus something like a BP. The more moisture the more chances to attract mites. I had an issue once with mites in a few of my tarantula enclosures. I was lucky to find it early and stop it from spreading to any of my other tarantulas, snakes, or lizards.

I heard that the main issue is Cripto! In ball pithons is common! But not as deadly!
Have some one heard about this?
I not sure if its the same strain of crypto. I know that it effects snakes and lizards in different ways. In lizards it effects the intestines preventing the lizard from absorbing nutrients. In snakes it effects the stomach and can cause internal bleeding. Snakes can get crypto just like geckos but I would not consider it "common".
Crypo can only be contracted (from what I have read) orally from things like contaminated water or food bowls, decor, or fecies that is from or been in direct contact with an infected animal. It can not be passed to another animal by simply being in the same room.

Thanks for all the help. I would hope the snake dont have mites. Was just wondering if one did happen to mite some time down the road if they would transfer to the leo's. I get them on Tuesday.

I do know certain strains of crypto can cross species, I just can't remember which ones do off the top of my head. I'll go look it up.

There still should be no issues as long as you dont mix and match decor, caging, food/water bowls, and use proper cleaning and sanitation techinques. Including of course, washing your hands each and every time you are in contact with one of your reptiles or anything in its enclosure before moving to the next one.
