i just read the care sheet and it says they can have sand as long as the gecko is atleast 5-6 inch's long because when they are a baby they cant digest it very well if they do eat it... he is not a baby gecko btw , i am not gunna use play sand because as my bf looked into it as he has a marine fish tank and if u read on the back of the packets it says that it has cemicals in it and as for the calcium sand it dnt have anything artifical in it or harmeful cemicals

Oh calcium sand is very bad for leos your best bet is tile or papper towels or reptile carpet. You don't want your leo to become impacted that is not good for your leo.

Some pet stores don not give a danm okay so they can care less about if your gecko gets impacted or not. When we give out advise it's because we know what we are talking about. And when we get new people in here that come to us for advise we will be up front with them. We just want to get the new person stared off on the right foot. :)

so what should i replace my uv light with?? because without the uv durin the day the temputure will stay at about 82c and that isnt warm enough is it... ive been told 90c which is also on the care sheet i have got online ....so i replace my sand with kitchen roll but the only thing is i have a 3ft tank so my heatpad is inside the tank so there for surely if i put kictchen roll on the heat pad im gunna have some sort of hazard

quote from Leopard Gecko FAQ

http://www.reptilecare.com/LeopardFAQ.htm

No, Leopard Geckos are nocturnal and rarely see the sun in their native Pakistan. Therefore they don't need uv in captivity. It certainly won't hurt to expose them to it though. If there is a uv light over it's cage make sure the gecko has somewhere to hide where it is nice and dark

can i just put a standered bulb in there instead of a uv one?? because that will give off heat aswell which should hopefully do the same job the uv is doin for me in the day n makin the temputure perfect for him

What I have in my tank is coconut shavings (get in a brick and drop in bucket of water; takes up to 3 days to fully hydrate and dry.) one hide, put in moist hide only when about to shed, a fake vine wrapped around a chunk of driftwood on slate. I'll post a picture when I can, but the idea is to shade much of the cage so your gecko can wander if he wants to.

I have a 100w bulb over him on a timer. the general rule is put it on for between 8-14 hours (mine clicks on at about 5:30am and clicks off at 7:30;I'm going to reduce it a bit though.)
