Hi Everyone!

I just got my baby leo yesterday morning and I have a question about light cycles. If my leo is supposed to be exposed to 12 hrs of light and 12 hrs of darkness, how is that possible when I'm home at night when it's naturally dark outside, but I have my lights are turned on. Yet during the day the room is darker because I turn the lights out when I'm not home. Is that okay for him? Any suggestions will be gladly appreciated!!:):main_yes:

As long as there is a bunch of hoursof darkness and of light during a 24 hour period it doesn't matter that much exactly how it breaks down. Leopard geckos are nocturnal so during the day they'd be in their caves and notice the daylight incidentally. I have not found it harmful to have the lights on in the evening in my house. All my geckos are in the living room and the dining room, so when the family is around the lights are on. When we go to bed for the night, they have hours of darkness.

Thanks!! He's my first reptile ever, and I know it's unrealistic to want everything to go smoothly for us, but I want everything to go well!! LOL!
I guess you can say I'm nervous because his overall well being totally depends on me and I don't want to fail him. (I know, I'm such a spaz LOL!)

Thanks again to ACPart

I have to agree with ACPart. I have a light on my tank connected to a timer but, I do not think that it is necessary. My Leos are in my dinning/living room and there are lights on in the room at night.

Right now Snowy is out and laying on the spot where the UTH is located.

Petra de Gecko is hiding in the moist hide. I didn't know that she was using it but, now I know. I had bought one of the Repti-Shelters and stuck it in the tank. Currently, only Petra de Gecko has the light during the day.

Snowy is stuck with whatever daylight reaches inside the house. I have thick drapes, etc. so not a lot of daylight enters the house.

Just don't flash lights in their eyes.:D
