ok i have 1 lepord gecko and a 29 gal tank and a 100w red infran red light. i am going to the pet store in about a hour or so to get a undertank heater. but back to my question ive read everywhere the leos cannt see the red light does this mean the red light is useless it does out off a little heat, when light is on the temp is around 80 and when its off with just room temp ithe tank is about 70.

No they are not useless, it means the light does not bother the leo at night, allowing them to receieve proper day/night light cycles and allows you to veiw them when there out. :main_thumbsup:

If you need it for heat on the warm side then you can leave it on 24/7 or even 27/7 :) If you provide belly heat on the warm side then you don't need them on at night.

Yep you would only need the red lights at night then for viewing.

P.S. make sure your uth is on a thermostat.

I gave up using my 75W red heat lamps completely, since the temperatures reached over 100 F used together with the UTH.

What I do is tstat the UTH and use dimmers on the red lights for night veiwing. BTW don't buy red bulb$ at pet $tores. :)

Leaving the red light on at night with the UTH is fine as long as the temp doesn't get too high. When you go to hold a leo you want to make sure it sees your hand and move slowly so you don't frighten it. Slide your fingers under the belly and make sure it is gently secured in your hand. I don't recommend forcing it out of it's home if it isn't in the mood (unless it's a emergency). Make sure to wash your hands after handling. :)
