Line Bred Snows?

Call me an idiot but I'm confused with the genetics of the Line Bred Snows. What exactly makes a line bred snow, a line bred snow? Do the same rules apply with line breds and macks? Can you still produce SS with LB?

Line bred snows are created from generations of selective breeding for the light colored snow appearance. They do not work the same as the mack snows as far as I know however, to make you scratch your head a little. Super snows have been produced from crossing mack snows into line bred snows.

The SS in our avatar was produced from LBS X MS, and we were told by Albey that the SS is produced 6 percent of the time.

Also, Line Bred Snows paired together do not produce a Super Snow. The only Snow that will produce a Super Snow when bred back to itself is the Mack Snow. Hence, Gem Snow x Gem Snow, or TUG Snow x TUG Snow, will not produce Super Snows.

the key part of the line bred snow is the term "line bred".

I think it's a good neumonic to think of the "Line Bred Snows", the same way you think about Tangerines, Hypos, SHTCB, etc.. it's something produced from selective breeding alike or complimenting pairs of leos repeatedly to produce a final look..

A tangs offspring (depending on pairing) will exhibit tang colors in some degree. But none of them are Het for Tang.. The characteristic can then be reverted less and less back to an original coloring if reverse selectively bred.

There is no Het Tang and there is no Het Line Bred Snow -

to make it worse there is no Het Mack either (although opinions have been varying lately ;) )

"Mack" is a true gene, whereas line bred is an inherited look..

Both of these concepts are definitely one of the most pondered theories among enthusiasts. At least in my circles.

hope that helps :main_thumbsup:
