So far I've read through 11 pages of cresties posts. I've jotted down a bunch of different things to keep track of. I'll be double checking my plant species...and so on.

I've just received my first crestie as a belated xmas gift:D

Help keep my guy safe & happy. What are the most common mistakes newbies make with cresties?

Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on your new crestie. I could sort of feel it coming the past few months. The only "mistake" I can think of at the moment is based on a leo owner not making similar assumptions about cresties. Specifically: remember that cresties tend to go up rather than down when they want to get away, and that cresties weigh less than leos of the same size (my crestie is probably bigger than my 113 gram leo of the same size but only weights 48 grams and I've been told that's a good weight.

hahah,

#1, people listening to what idiots on the internet have to say.

that is pretty wide-spread, among all newbs with all species.

Yeah, maybe, but it's sure better than listening to the untrained help in a pet store! Which is where my crestie came from...as a gift...I was holding out til the April show in NH & had been researching & building up my vivarium...maybe I'll just have to buy a 2nd one there:p

I bought two books last year when I got my crestie. The more valuable one was "Crested Geckos" by Philippe de Vosjoli. The other one was "Crested Geckos" by Adam Black and that was useful only because it listed some plants native to New Caledonia. I bought one of them for my planted tank and Spencer usually spends the days wrapped up in its leaves.

Feeding them babyfood. Stick to CGD and dusted crickets.

+1 People have mixed baby food with CGD. I read on the internet that it's a no no. Something about the nutrients offsetting.

With Crestie's-I would say one of the biggest mistakes is not keeping them at cool enough temps especially in the summer months

They really don't do well when they get overheated

:(
