The other day i was moving some things around in my geckos cage and in doing so i roughed up some of the sand and all of sudden there were tiny white barely visIble bugs everywhere. Within a couple hours they were just about gone. I've been checking my gecko closely, but he is bug free. Any idea what these are?

I would immediately remove all of the sand and replace it paper towel. Sand can be digested and cause impaction and it's less sanitary.

I'm definatley getting rid of the sand, I was going to replace it with reptile carpet and some slate tile. I just wish i knew what the bugs were.

I think those bugs appear when humidity is high. I don't think they will do harm to your geckos though.

Not worms, they crawl around pretty quick. I've also noticed they were eating some of the dead crickets. The sand is gone now so hopefully the bugs wont come back.

Could you take a pic of the bugs, or are they too small?

I hope you got your leos out of there and dumped that sand (which you shouldnt be using in the first place!! :main_no: ) and cleaned everything up.

The bugs probably wont hurt anything, but it's best to be on the safe side :main_yes:

The bugs are way to small for pictures. The sand is gone and everything is spotless.

Sounds good.

they are mites just get rid of the sand and clean everything in the cage with really hot water to kill them all off so they dont attack your gecko next

Yeah, I was thinking mites too. I've had them before, in the summer it can be a problem. You need to disinfect everything; food and water bowls, hides, everything! You should also check your feeders. They may be infected, but I'm not sure about that. My thinking is, if in doubt, throw it out!
