Little guy not eating mealies

I have been trying to feed my little dude for a few days now (I just rescued him) and he wont eat much of anything. He seems slightly interested in the crickets but when they hop away he just rolls back into his hide. So earlier today I got some mealies and put em in a dish, he sniffed em and walked away. I saw on another thread that one could possibly put a superworm in with the mealies to get his attention, is this a valid idea? My little guy is only about 6 inches, is he large enough to eat a super worm?

Also, this nice employee at petsmart told me what I could do is put him in a seperate container with his prey and try to encourage him to eat in that manner. If this is a legitimate thought, I have a 1.5g aquarium, would this be large enough for temporary (30 or so minutes) housing, so he can eat?

Thank you all in advance!

thats what i did with the crickets and they responded like i told you in the same thread before...its a good idea but its not about that..its if your gecko would eat in another cage...the only way you can find out is if you try..and I think 30 minutes is a bit to long to let him be inside there with prey considering how small the tank is....if he dosent eat them within i say 5 minutes take him out. goodluck:D

I knew there was someone on here who also told me that same trick! I couldnt remember who it was, but I will try to do this tomorrow afternoon. Or do you think it would be okay to do it at this hour (11 PM), would it stress the little guy at all?

since geckos are nocturnal there usually most active and alert at night and early mornings, so yes 11pm is fine :). I feed mine when they come out at around 9 and start searching for food.

Any of those methods can work but, you really should leave the gecko alone and let him become adjusted to his new home. If he wanted to eat he would have snapped up what was offered instead of sniffing and walking away. The feeders had his attention.

If you just "rescued" him then there could be other issues that is causing him not to eat. How long have you have him? Does he look healthy? Do you have a picture of him?

^+1. thats actually what should be done, ignore my comment. I did read your post, but my mind was somewhere else I guess, I was thinking you had her for a longer period of time not realizing you mentioned rescue... so you probably only had her for under a week?. Let her get comfortable and settled in :main_thumbsup: and wait for a stool:main_yes:.

And if there isn't a stool and you've had him (her?) for a week or two it may be impaction.
