I have a female that mated on 5/10 that still has not laid and doesn't appear to be gravid. Should I pair her up with the male again? It was the first time for her as well as that male. Another female that mated 2 days after has already laid a clutch. Thanks.

From what I understand even if she wasn't ovulating at the time of mating the sperm will be stored and fertilize the next group of eggs as she ovulates. That being said, I'm pretty sure she was ovulating. She was extremely receptive to the male and just allowed him to do his thing. If the sperm storage is indeed the case i would think that during the course of a month she would at least become gravid.

from my research into this, the sperm "can" be stored. you can do a search here on the forums for pictures of ovulating females, but you will be able to clearly see a pink spot on her belly when it's time. you best bet is to wait until you are sure she is ovulating, then pair her up again. good luck!

In some cases females can store sperm for up to nine months. That's not saying all can do it, or that it even hooked up proper. Sometimes males have to do the dirty a few times before making gravid girls fertile. I'd have them mate a few times if you are hoping to have her store the sperm.

I keep my males and females together during the season. It's taken weeks and weeks and weeks sometimes, especially at the beginning of the season.
