Losing Sanity Fast

Well most of you that know me, know I keep busy. Well I've graduated college with my BA, working on another degree--Business Administration and getting ready for lawschool next year. On top on all of this, I build vivariums professionally and keep a large collection (100+ animals). Well, I just reviewed all the animals I have coming in (some paid for as early as March of this year) and got a little shock...something to the tune of 40 more animals! Am I alone in my addiction or others here know how difficult it is to pass up good deals?!

My animal addiction has gotten me more than a few times, this last time with this Mastiff, that I could not (well would not) let be taken to animal control to be no longer alive. Its been bad in the past with reptiles too but I had such a horrible reptile year this year I quit and now keep a few as special pets.

Haroldo, I don't even know how many geckos I have right now. I lost my sanity years ago.

Atleast you and Kelli finally admitted it! :p

Haha, Harold. Best of luck to you, and god speed to law school. I want to start seeing more photos of all these cool animals you're getting great deals on, okay?

If I had the money I would probably need another house just for my animal addictions. I was like that before I even started breeding leopard geckos. Only now, I have an excuse for adding to my collection. "but hunny, I neeeeed this gecko to complete my project!" I see nothing wrong with being addicted to animals as long as they are all well taken care of. I know there are some people that let it get way out of hand to the point where the animals are suffering and so are the owners. I was watching a show the other day and the SPCA had taken 80 some dogs out of a womans house. most of the animals were not in good shape and I think they found a few dead ones too. I love animals very much but I know when I have reached my limit. I know what I can aford to take care of and I know what I have time for. So I still consider my self partly sane. lol

I'm pretty much at the limit of what I can take care of at the moment which limits what I get. I actually feed and water every other night minimum so ~100+ is a lot of work. I may start houseing things in pairs or trios though which woiuld cut back the work load a lot.

Nice to see I'm not the only crazy one here.

Matthew, I actually don't have a good digital out here, so animals will go largely unphotographed until that changes. Funny how I can spend a couple thousand on some new geckos, but won't drop $800 on a decent dSLR.

Brandy, I know that strategy well, but I usually try to buy the group all at once so the shock is short-lived. Probably not a good routine on a college student's budget...

Gecko, what is your name? Hate referring to people by screennames...I'm pretty much maxxed out too after this. Have no clue where I'm housing offspring next year. The new room has room for 42 Phelsuma/Lygodactylus tanks alone! About 60 tanks will be devouted to arid terrestrials. Well, you get the picture. The only reason I'm stretching this far is: Complete automation (minus feeding) is only a couple months away. Working on design of computer-controlled system for misting, lights, heating, etc., but it's a difficult task when you're doing it alone. We'll see how it goes...
